maybe that two spot are where the paint bubble at is the LEDs module underneath it, so when the LEDs turn on those module get really hot that why the paint is bubble? if the paint is defective why would it bubble ealse where too? why just that spot?,I don't think it from the heat from the projectors eigther? if it cause from the heat of the projectors why the brand new cars on the lot has them bubble too? they never has the light turn on except the LEDs is on when the cars in transportation or test drive?

a poor paintjob wouldn't bubble if there were no other elements to effect it. being that basically all headlights are starting to bubble in the exact spot which is right in front of the projector beam(s) just makes perfect sense that its from the heat of the HID, not the sun. have you ever held your hand in front of a headlight beam for about 30 seconds? try it.

You're exactly right. This is not from sun...no way. If it was it'd be the whole strip that is painted black. When I go do a temperature conversion from 4300K to Fahrenheit it comes out to 7280 degrees!!! That doesn't sound right to me, but if it is you could only imagine the heat going on inside that headlight whether it's a new car or one with 5,000 miles on it, I'm sure this is the cause.

The K in 4300K is a measure of color temperature, which is different from the tradition meaning of temperature. The surface of the sun is 5000K-6000K (if I remember correctly), and that's where the term color temperature comes from - the surface temperature of the star emitting that color of light.

Several cars have matte black headlight housings out of the factory, and many people open them and paint them without bubbling issues. It's definitely not the sun causing the problem. Lexus/their headlight manfacturer screwed up.

That would make sense, but how about the brand new cars on the lot has bubble too? those cars has few miles on them, and I don't think those cars driven at night? to have the low beam on to bake those paint strip?, the best way to find out is open the headlights to test out

well hell, I took another look at mine just now and the paint is starting to wrinkle a bit. I have 800 miles on my car, and it stays in the garage. Ive turned my HIDs on maybe 5 times and and the longest time being for 20mins.

Has anybody posted this issue on the Lexus Facebook page? I'd love to see what their response is. If nothing else, it will bring this problem to their attention very quickly.

Good idea ... I just posted this thread on their page...

EDIT ... on second thought ... Maybe we should figure out first...

Anyone got a dealer response yet? Is it just a small run or everyone? Fixed yet?

Exclamation

Until the defect issue is fixed, the problem will NOT go away with a simple replace....!!

They have to address this a Corporate Level in Japan & USA.
Usually the QC Dept. (Quality Control)

I say the heat generated underneath the frames is where the issue lies.. In conjuction with a flaw in the painting process of the frames..

The HID Bulbs or Projectors do generate heat, but in my opinion its not excessive..
Otherwise we would see problems accross ALL IS Headlights..

Heck the Halogen Bulb Fog Lights get extremely hotter to touch, compared to the OEM HID Lights..

Also, a point to mention is that they dropped AFS from these 11'+ New lights.. I wonder if the rewiring is somehow negatively effecting the housings.

Just my thoughts.. & .02 ¢

Heard back from my service guy today. He said all the 2011 IS on their lot have it. He is going to investigate it further. Dealers want to be on top of this because they generate $$$ from even every warranty part replaced. He told me he has no problem replacing my headlights but obviously it won't be a permanent fix because there is no TSIB for it yet or solution. Curious to see where this goes over the next few months!
