Default Cheap rims survived the ultimate test

Coming home from work last night (about 15 mins after I picked up the car from getting detailed BTW) and just my usual path home - the most boring drive ever - and I notive a car in front of my a ways braking pretty hard but there is a fairly commonly used turn off there so I just assumed they zoned out and needed to stop fast before they missed it, so I move to the right lane ( two trucks in that lane ahead of me) and start to notice something weird..... the road looks like it has a line of dirt or something across it....

I start slowing (was going about 75) and then realize what it was and SLAM on the brakes.... still ended up smacking this at about 45 mph....

It was hot enough today to buckle the concrete from expansion... so there was a ~6" pile of busted concrete across all lanes of this highway... I hit it pretty hard, pulled over at the next street but all rims and tires seemed to be fine.... it was insane - Called the cops to get someone to at least mark it with a sign/light.... stupid dangerous to let it sit like that.

Not my pic but exactly what it looked like

Where do you live?? That happened in several places on the freeways here in Minneapolis, it has been over 100 degrees the last two days! Of course on Friday it's going to be a high of 59. Go figure

That looks crazy!! I would have crapped my pants if I saw/hit this. My lip would have been on the floor too!

^^^ Second that... even my Monster Truck (stock) height would bottom out on that.

I would be pissed off and crying....

Seems like bad civil engineering. I'm not sure if the road has been gapped properly to accommodate the movement of concrete during heat changes.

The wheels are MSR 045 - w/ General Altimax HP tires 225/40/18....

I'm super glad I didn't buy a lip yet and or lower the car.... it would have been toast.

Wisconsin - dead center - Stevens Point area. It was just crazy... surprised the tires and rims made it though no problem.... more surprised I either hit it with perfect (Bad) timing and it just happened, or that the cops/city didn't mark it at all.

Looks like I'm taking a new route home for a while

glad you got thru that unscathed. It could have been worse. My bro ran over a ladder in his IS; bent up 2 rims, ripped front and rear bumpers from the tabs and busted up the crossmember.

Midwest sucks like that - we're going from 95+ today to a high of 51 tomorrow.... then add in all the snow and ice busting stuff up, roads are never good... ever. I think they should start adding recycled rubber into roads (like running tracks) to help take some of the movement

These are the rims

I hit a file cabinet drawer in the road only a few months ago and it ended up in my buying a while new set of rims and tires.... figured it was going to happen again.
