Looks pretty similar to every Fbody I've pulled the trans out of. Cars are cars, good to know Lexus didn't throw a curve in there somewhere.

You are right! The only thing different is that this transmission is sealed; no external cooling and/or transmission fluid lines.

You guys can use this thread to change the starter, headers, exhaust, oxygen sensors, etc.

The only thing with this car is: the tight spots the bolts are in. It will take small hands and/or ingenuity to loosen some of the bolts.

Bows down to your efforts in amazment. Glad to see others are still out there at aren't afraid to work on their own vehicles...even a transmission replacement. Kudos!

This is a far cry from the 2 hrs it currently takes me to swap out a Civic manual trans. LOL!

Impressive, did you have the shop manual for reference or did you just start taking stuff out? This is a DIY that probably less than 1/10 of 1 percent of IS owners would ever attempt, much less complete. Props for doing it.

Thanks again for the comments. We just looked and started to remove items that were in the way of the transmission.

Hi Guys, could you please elaborate a bit more in regards of the transmission Oil, did you have to put some yourself ?
Also when removing the torque converter, do I need to do it while in the car or does it come out with the flywheel attached...... Not really a mechanic as you see, but need to save the money I don't have
Thanks in advance for this posting.

Great DIY, I think the picture/explanation that impressed me the most was the, picture of the tranny bolts lined up, not enough people think about that stuff when pulling things apart......must be surgeons or involved in research, very good attention to detail!

Awesome job gays!!! Thanks to you I was able to swap my transmission by myself in 9 hours, ... My car has 160k but with this 2012 transmission with only 1000 miles it feels like a new car.
I attached some documents for anybody up to the challenge.
I followed this particular disassembly order:

1- remove lower oxygen sensors
2- remove "Y" muffler
3- remove drive shaft
4- remove lower engine plastic covers
5- disconnect top oxygen sensors
6- remove Headers left & right (top bolt from above and lower bolts from underneath the car)
7- remove transmission rubber mount while lowering transmission with a floor jack. ( fluid and coolant needs drainage at this point)
8- unbolt and disconnect Starter.
9- Unbolt Torque convertor from above.
10- Disconnect trans heater houses.
Unbolt transmission using pneumatic or electrical 300lbs impact drive tool and long extensions (17mm bolt are super tight)
11-Remove transmission.

12- Remove A/C water drainage plug !!!! If you ever had trouble with water inside your car carpets.

TORQUE CONVERTOR NEED TO BE WELL PUSHED IN AGINST TRANSMISSION HOUSING FOR ASSEMBLY.
