Windshield Replacement

Walked outside this morning and when I looked up from sitting in my car I noticed huge cracks coming from the top.(IS350)

Not sure what caused it as it definitely wasn't like that yesterday when I got out of it.

I have State-Farm and luckily there is no deductible for Replacement/fixes(it can't be fixed i'm sure). However, I have yet to hear which places they allow to replace and I'm scared it's going to be some non-Lexus brand. Anyone have any similar experience or any people I should watch out for?

I just happened to be dropping my car off after that this morning and the guy in service said that it needs heated, rain sensors, support intermittent wiper, and green... then they will have to use Lexus most likely? That true?

A replacement is a just that. A REPLACEMENT. If you have a Lexus windshield, then it should be replaced with a Lexus windshield. Insist on it. I don't think any of us who spend the money we do on these cars would want anything less.

looks like a baseball or golf ball hit it right at the top of the glass...

Mysta 03-31-11 08:23 AM

Yeah definitely, wouldn't that set the alarm off?

laobo979 03-31-11 10:15 AM

Factory alarm wont go off. It not motion sensor. Your car can be sitting on blocks and it wont make a peep.

Yea someone broke ur windshield. I would insist on OEM replacement.

Mysta 03-31-11 10:26 AM

Trying to, they're saying if I go with OEM I will have to pay the difference.. like $500. So lame..

Peaches79 03-31-11 10:28 AM

Don't use Safelite and insist on OEM glass

mentroc 04-01-11 12:32 AM

OEM is the way to go. if insurance is paying i would just drop it off at the dealership

Anyone know the difference in price between a rain sensing windshield or non rain sensing? Also, are there any other features is350s have?(in relation to windshield)

bigblack06 04-04-11 06:07 AM

Yeah go with OEM or if you can't get pinkerton its the same brand that lexus uses just without the Lexus name, but I would insist on the branded Lexus one. Pricing would be more for rain sensing and I know that the Lexus glass comes with ppg repellant on it as opposed to the other.

Hmmm, did we just go back in time? :)

If you have rain-sensing wipers, they won't work nearly as well with non Lexus glass. I had my older 250's windshield replaced with non Lexus and the rain sensors never worked quite right. You should be able to use this argument as a safety concern and legitimate reason to have the real glass put in. I didn't and wish I did. Almost any knock on the glass would set off the wipers. Sometimes just adjusting the rearview mirror would do it.

I had a friend with a C32 AMG that got a big windshield crack and the insurance co sent out a repair truck with bogus glass. He called them and explained that would be a hazard as the rain sensors wouldn't work as well and it really needed to be OEM glass. They set him up with OEM glass. Done deal. You make monthly payments for a reason - IN CASE *****. This is one of those reasons.

Mysta...what ever happened with this? I'm curious because I just got a huge crack in my windshield from a rock and my insurance company is fighting me on having it replaced with the oem glass.
