Default Anyone else think the ABS is a little too sensitive? 07 is250

Driving around in the snow/ice today I was coming up on a red light. Hardly any snow/ice on the road infront of me and just by tapping the brakes A LITTLE TINY BIT the abs came on and I hardly stopped.

The car next to me came to a stop MUCH faster than I did.
.
My all season tires are practically new, 5k miles on them.

At the next light I used the ebrake to stop and I came to a MUCH faster stop. Even without the front brakes.

Makes me wonder if maybe the ABS is just a little TOO sensitive.

Personally I wish I could turn it off in snow......because on another very wide road I got up to 30mph, hit the brakes and turned the wheel. Even with Abs going nuts I kept going straight.

The car next to you probably had snow tires on... which are vastly superior to all-seasons in the snow/ice.

Honestly all seasons kinda suck at everything.

The problem isn't your brakes, it's your tires... which are the things that actually stop the car.

I have other cars with all seasons on them and they don't slide as much as these.

Oh well. Technically brakes stop the car btw.......are you always this snobby in your answers?

Either way, is there a way to turn off ABS?

I've had lots of cars with it and this is by far the most sensitive and useless system I've ever seen, as shown by the fact that even when it's in action it still didn't steer the car at all.

Brakes stop the rotors which stop the wheels which has the tires on them that touch the street which from friction, stop the car....hehehe

He is right. Any cheap snow tires are better than any premium all-season tires in snow. Go to tirerack, they have videos comparing snow tires vs all-season.

haha, - I just really didn't appreciate ABS today. If I had it off, the TIRES, which STOP the car........would have just dug in and eventually stopped me, skidding and all.

Hmm might have to do this.

I bet I could even get a switch for the blank switch holders to the left of the steering wheel and right above the trunk unlock.

So anyone know which fuse it is to disable

It's probably your tires. I had the all season Bridgestone Potenza RE92 and it was useless in light snow. I wouldn't even make a full turn and the tires would lose traction. I went to tirerack to check the survey results for these tires and for light snow they give it a 3.8 out of 10. I now have the Bridgestone Blizzak winter tires and I love them.

Meh, I have no problems with acceleration.....hardly slips at all........it's just that the SECOND I hit the brakes, ABS is on, even when I tried to do it very very lightly.....

That's why I decided to try using the emergency brake to stop the car, and it stopped MUCH FASTER with the two rear wheels than all 4 wheels!

Oh I forgot one other thing to mention.

After I realized how crappy this car and it's abs (and my ****ty tires) was for stopping on ICE/snow, I put into the paddle shifting mode.

I was going down a hill, hit first and it slowed down WAY faster than it would have with the brakes.

How do you figure that?
