Mine is an 06 (73000 miles) and my battery started dying this past month. Fully died after listening to the radio for less than 10 mins after stopping the car. Maybe 06 batteries are set to die after 4 yrs. Had it tested at Autozone and they said it was bad. I'm still running on it for now. Thanks for the diy to remind me I need a new one.

Is there any other recommendation on battery brands?

Nice DIY. I just had mine checked (07 w/52K) and it is still good, hopefully it will make it a few more years but i'll keep this on my favorites for when it craps out on me.

Nah, my original just celebrated it's fifth birthday last month (though I wasn't invited to the party ), and it's still going strong. I do top off the cells with distilled water at least once a year.

Doh! I miscalced. Mine also celebrated it's 5th birthday last November 14th to be exact.

Also, do you top off with distiller water regardless of the ring indicator on top? Mine still says the water is fine. How do you go about adding this?

Fifth birthday? And I'm assuming you bought your 06 in Dec 2005.

I bought mine in Jan 2006.
1st year - 2007
2nd year - 2008
3rd year - 2009
4th year - 2010
5th year - 2011

Blah. I can't add! So I guess my car is 5 years old and my battery lasted for 4 years and 360 days old. Time to edit my post!

Need some help getting the attention of the moderators to get this added to the DIY page. If you know one, can you PM them for me?

The Duralast Gold from Autozone fits perfectly into the plastic casing.

Just checked my battery out tonight. Yep, sure enough it was thirsty. Water level was quite low actually. Didn't know I had to put water in it... Now I know. The indicator changed from "water needed" to "charging needed". I'll see if the indicator turns blue again after a few days driving. I hope it does.. Post pone a new battery for a few more months..

This just goes to show that the guys at autozone don't think to look at that and are quick to say you need a new battery. :-p

You forgot to remove the handle? Is it removable? I removed my handle and kept in the garage for taking out the battery the next time I need to change it.

I'm curious to know whether the water resolves your problem. (Hopefully you used distilled water)

I'm not surprised it was thirsty, especially after five years in your hot climate.

my alarm was going off in my garage last night, thought that was weird since it's never ever gone off in 3 years of owning it... head out for work this morning and DOH, dead battery. It's the original in the car so I'm sure it's ready, and not bad timing considering I'm at home. I'm currently waiting for Kragen to open so I can get this thing moving.

Can I use optima red top size 35 for our car? This is the only size that Costco and samsclub carry. The dimension is similar to size 25 but I'm not sure if it will harm the car since size 35 is a little bit stronger.

I also changed mine last week. I went with the Odyssey 34-PC3500T. It's almost an inch shorter than the oem so I had to buy the heigth adapter, now it fits perfectly. It's pricey, $240 for the battery shipped and another $21.73 for the adapter, I also put the plastic casing aside. Prettty happy with it.
