AWD doesn't make that big of a difference I got g35 RWD coupe with snow tires and AWD IS250 stock tires (i live in toronto area). The AWD IS does still get stuck and fish tails sometimes in extreme conditions ( 30F/70R power split i think) on the same roads I drive the G35 RWD(comparing AWD to RWD). Its all depends on driving style I guess and how far up north you live but imo RWD is fine for winter just get a good set of snow tires no cheap Canadian tire motormaster stuff and drive responsibly according to weather conditions.

Agreed,

AWD is overrated. It's one reason why I sold my AWD and went with RWD. Even thou there was snow, I knew how to drive in it so it was not a problem.

I live in Calgary and I drove my ISF last year through the winter. Obviously AWD is better in the snow but I didn't have any problems at all and I drove every day.

Don't do it, you want good grip when you are trying to stop. Only getting two WILL help; but only when you step on the gas.

Just get the full set they will last you 3-5 seasons.

As stated by vapid2323, absolutely don't do it. Most accidents happen in the winter when a car can't stop, or can't corner, make sure the wheels that do most of that work (front) have a chance at some traction. Putting snows on the rear might keep you from getting stuck, and you will be able to accelarate faster. Which will only increase the damage to you and the car when you slide off the road going faster because you still can't corner or brake.

As mentioned by Kurtz several pages back in this thread TIRES are the #1 performance improvement you can make to your car, summer or winter.

Nothing beats a new set of Blizzacks in snow! I used to live in a very high snow area and I have had Blizzacks for at least the last four cars I have owned.
