Maybe you haven't been in stock for a while lol. I thought the exact same thing till I got a loaner and air suspension has a smoother ride than my coils did.
i have a loaner car now and of course the loaner rides nicer but my GS with stock wheels on rides fairly close to what the loaner does. its all about adjusting your dampening.
