Can I run with ECT Power mode continuosly?
Am I right in assuming that there a typo in the first sentence of this TIS extract:
" ... ... enables the ECM to estimate the road condition, driver's intention, the driver's intention, and the ...... "
i.e. repeats "driver's intention"

Do we know why the driving mode switch "PWR/ECT/SNOW" is not 'sticky'.
That is for example, we can't leave it permanently in PWR-ECT.
(That's what I'd like to do!)
We have to select it every time we go out in the car.

Is it a UK model thing? Mine stays in PWR-ECT mode. When you select it, it clicks into place.
It could well be a UK thing.
I never thought of that.
But you have now sown seeds of doubt in my mind.
Am I sure it goes off after I turn off the ignition?
I will go out to the car soon and check it (we've got a lot of snow here in the UK right now)
Just to try to make myself clear.
It's like the heated rear windscreen, for example.
If it is on when you turn the ignition off.
You have to switch the heated rear windscreen back on again.
Does that make sense?

Ok, agreed.
I don't want to labour the point.
But another example would be, Cruise Control.
As soon as you turn the ignition off, the Cruise Control goes off.
You have to activate it, if you want it, next time you switch the ignition on.

On my US spec car you can select Power ECT and leave it there indefinitely. The switch physically "locks" into place when you select power mode. However, snow mode does not lock into place and needs to be selected each time you start up the car.
Same as my Canadian spec car.
Both my 4runner and IS350 will stay in PWR mode indefinitely. I've never taken my 4runner out of PWR (since I put 255/85 tires on it) since it actually helps a good bit even out the gas mileage with much larger tires than stock.
That's a relief.
I went out to the car just now to test it.
I don't know why I thought it switched itself off ... ....

Thanks to all for your advice.

Where is Kurtz and the others when you need them? :-)
What I would really like to know is this.
Does the AI-Shift Control function still pass data to the ECU even when the pattern switch is in the "Normal" position and the shift lever in the D position?
