Yeah it wouldn't be the Es's fault cause he probably had to run over the wood on the freeway or risk getting into an accident if he swerved around it. The wood didn't belong to him, you will have to find the person that drop the piece of wood.

hey guys. I am trying to get this fixed but its taking longer than I thought. My parents are saying to avoid insurance, and they think that its the ES350's fault....
But anyways i've been calling sewell but the line is busy. I called lexus of glendale and they only sell the whole side mirror assembly...
Here is the side mirror. I asked a price quote for 87931 (hoping it was just the outer piece, but they say its the whole assembly without the mirror)

any ideas on this? I only asked for that number so that I can get LED turn signal side mirrrors. Let me know what you guys think!

I went through a similar incident last October in Ventura County. I was on the 23 north through Moorpark at night when suddenly there was a whole tire tread in my lane. Had to go over it, as there was a highway patrol right next to me. He.... was going to the van that had just blow his tire and pulled over ahead. So I got off the next offramp and checked for damage. It was dark, so hard to see, but black marks were everywhere. Called Highway Patrol and told them I was going back to the scene where the van and CHP car was, to get the van's info. She said to do it and that she'd inform them I was coming. Came back to the scene and pulled over and talked to Mr. CHP as a group of them were fixing the tire. I told him this guy's tire was in the middle of the highway and I couldn't avoid it. Asked to get his info, but Mr. CHP was hesitant, saying it would be hard to prove it actually came from the van, even though "you and I both know it did." (1 AM in the morning, no other cars out, one blown tire from a van... there was no other possible person or vehicle). So I asked again and he grudigingly obliged. Got me the van driver's business card. When I got home... OF COURSE, I see my foglight is dangling from it's housing and the fender is bent. So called the Van's number (it was a shuttle service) and told them what happened and that I was going to file a claim with my insurance. Next day, shuttle service called me back wanting more info.
Long story short, they paid for everything through their insurance and I got my car fixed. While the entire thing was a longshot, I got fortunate. If I hadn't spotted the van on the side of the road, turned around and gone back to the scene, I would have had nothing.
Point of the story is persistance pays, but you have to know who left the debris on the road. That is who is at fault.
