HELP! Sunroof won't close

Just got a call from my mom and the sunroof on the IS250 she's in won't close all the way. It will close almost all the way and then reopen. She said she accidently pulled the shade close while the sunroof was still open. Anyone have any idea what this could be?

nguyen87 Apr 9, 2010 04:24 PM

possibly pulled something out of place on the
shade so now its blocking the closure of the sunroof?

COOLIS Apr 9, 2010 04:28 PM

Yeah im sure it something like that. If I was with her I probably could figure it out, but shes up in Santa Ynez wine tasting. I just did a search and found a way to close it by holding the auto button for 10 seconds. Im gonna call her back and see if that works for them.

u might have to put it on the auto position and then hold it down till it closes.... i work at a dealership and something like that happened to one of our is350's... it turns out the switch was broke. Just something to look in to.

giantdefy Apr 9, 2010 07:01 PM

something might be caught in the gutter of the sunroof preventing it to close.

happened to me too...

push UP and HOLD the sunroof "auto" button until the sunroof fully opens - repeat for closing.

This should fix the problem.

yeap you gotta reset it with the dial

Omg this happend to me few months back... Finnaly an answer , I hope this fixes it. , cause I haven't used my sun roof in half a year lol

The dealer today said the sunroof needs a new motor? That sounds kind of strange to me considering it still slides back and forth, but just doesn't want to shut all the way. Its covered under warranty so can't complain.

mines is doing the same thing but the auto close didnt work for me to hold the button for 10 secs or more... any ideas

push the button inward and hold it for a little more then 10 seconds, dealer told me a motor also but after I did the button reset it fixed it and saved me money from the stealership!!!!

i remember when i got the car, the sales told me there is a tool in the trunk you can use to manually close the sunroof

TopSecret1 Sep 23, 2013 06:30 PM

Just had to do this. Saved me a ton of stress lol

Omg!

Thanks for this thread. I just got a used 2006 IS350 and the sunroof was doing what everyone else was saying and the reset worked perfectly!! It was weird because if I hit the auto button to stop it while it was closing - at around the point it would reopen - once stopped, I could hit the auto button again and it would close the rest of the way. I was using this trick until I got this reset and was worried it would be an expensive fix. Now it's all fine!

Loving this forum!

This freaked me out a few days ago, but then went away.
Today I was about to go into gym - and nope, wouldn't shut. I was freaking out.
Google showed this post when searching.
THANK YOU!
Pushing the auto button and holding down for appx 10 seconds reset it and all is well!
