Factory HID's
 

Can someone tell me what color the factory HID kelvin is i am trying to match the fog lights to the headlights thanks im thinking they are 6000k but would like some input

4300k is factory.


6000k has a bit of blue tint to it.

i think all factory is 4300k. factory will never be 6000k

if I want to convert the 4300k to 6000k, will I just have to replace it with the bulb or do I have to purchase a whole new HID kit?

if your 2is came equipped with HID's from the factory, all you will need to do is purchase and install a set of 6000k D4S bulbs.

if your 2is did not come equipped with HID's from the factory, you will need to buy an aftermarket HID kit.

check with CL vendors for your HID needs.

considering that the 2is oem HID's and fog lights are 4300k from the factory, and assuming that the factory HID's and fog lights have not been altered/changed, what do you need to match?

now, if your oem HID's or fog lights have been altered/changed to a different color temperature...

The OEM fogs are halogen bulbs in a reflector housing and I'd guess they're around the 3500K range, definitely not matching/4300K. Silverstar Ultra or PIAA Xtreme White bulbs for the fogs get you closer (check my thread here: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/is-...ng-lights.html).

For as close a match as possible, you'll need to get an HID conversion kit for your fogs with 4300K bulbs. If you're super anal, get a projector fog retrofit like me (I went with 6000K all around): https://www.clublexus.com/forums/is-...ml#post5295350

oh? i thought they were closer or at 4300k, since 3000k is yellow and the 2is oem halogen fogs aren't as yellow as 3000k; maybe 3800k-4000k? just a guess...

i've also noticed that color temperature will not only vary with bulbs of the same size, but also halogen vs. HID, and even HID w/ and w/out projectors. but again, that's just based on personal observations.

imo, 5000k is the "sweet spot" as far as maximum light output and color temperature, but 6000k appears to be more popular (albeit better on color than light output) and my personal preference.

^ The halogen fogs could certainly be 3800K-4000K, all I know is they're nowhere near 4300K/matching. Even after switching to the Silverstar Ultras (rated at ~4100K, probably bogus), it was still a very noticeable difference. And you're right about halogen vs. HID, and projector vs. reflector, they all make a difference in the color.

5000K probably is the sweet spot between output and color, but I'm willing, like many, to sacrifice a little output for that awesome 6000K color. I'll never understand those 10000K people though. :)

I have a stupid question:
How would I know if my 2is came with HIDs from the factory?
I'd like to upgrade to 6k

When you start up your car the lights will go up and down (auto-leveling).

D4S is the bulb type. Get Garax 6000K or Philips Ultinon if you want spend 3x as much for the brand name and maybe slightly better output (haven't seen them in person so can't comment).

How can i get my fogs looking yellow without tinting and without converting to hids. Although my car is already hid the fogs arent right?
