You can also look for a place that uses a computer to precut the tint to your car. This is how I had my car done and it came out great.

So, what is the consensus? Trim around the rear light or not? Dealer shop?

This has taken way too much of my time dealing with.
Not.

It's a brake light - people can see it light up no matter whether it's tinted over or not.

Not getting it tinted over would look weird during the daytime.

When I got my windows tinted, they used ceramic to avoid any radio interference. Metallic tint will interfere with antennas, and your radio antenna is integrated into your back window. This was your responsibility to know, not theirs. Frankly, I'm surprised they agreed to remove it in the first place, unless they were doing so because of bubbling/adhesion only.
Really, it is my responsibility to know the tint business? That is ridiculous.

No, but you should be an informed consumer. You don't have to know the business, but you should probably learn about the product before buying it.

Just my opinion.

I've tinted every car I have ever owned with no issues (at least 12 cars). I went to a shop that we have used since 2004. Unfortunately, it appears there were some new questions that I needed to ask. Maybe I was too trusting! Now I am armed with info from the forum. Ceramic tint it is.

You only need the ceramic tint on the rear window, so at least you won't have to remove the tint from the other windows. I did the same - regular metallic on 4, and ceramic on the rear, and you can't tell the difference between them in appearance. It's been nearly four years, and they all still look as good as they did when the tint was new - no uneven fading between tint types, etc.
