So you have money to mod?
Get a // full exhaust + intake + headers + throttle controller + lighter wheels + + larger throttle body // pull out the back seats and spare tire.........
Get a // full exhaust + intake + headers + throttle controller + lighter wheels + + larger throttle body // pull out the back seats and spare tire.........
etc pwr = my throttle controller

hardly, really.
while your age doesn't have anything to do with what you're trying to accomplish, like you said, it's technically not your car. i see no point in putting money into modifications into a car that doesn't belong to you.
maybe you have money to burn, maybe you don't. at the end of the day, it's not your car. again, i wouldn't bother with it; save it for your own car.
Yup... all of the above, for around $2700 (or $300 if you get a pricier intake) will add about 27 rwhp... 18 of that from the headers, if the one dyno we've seen on a 250 is accurate. But that's about all that'll really add any power.
Or just press the gas pedal harder, that's free, and does the same thing.
Adds no power, but certainly will help in handling, braking, and quickness... problem is you'll be spending another $2000-3000 for a GOOD set of light wheels... plus the cost of really good tires... Now between the wheels and the intake/exhaust/headers you've got almost $6000 spent, closer to $7000 with tires... or $1500-2500 more than having just bought a 350 would have been, and you're still massively slower than a stock 350.
I understand it's "not your car" and you can't get a 350 apparently. But you'd be a lot better served driving your (relatively) slow 250 for a few years and putting the $7000 that would make it marginally faster in the bank, then using it toward a car that's actually fast once you're able to.
Bonus- you'll actually have a few years driving experience by then and be less likely to wrap it around a tree.
I've seen no evidence that'll do a thing for this car, given the nature of the vehicle (highly calibrated drive-by-wire system) it might actually make things worse.
Yup, weight reduction is good, and these are free at least. Might as well pull the passenger seat while you're at it, decent bit of weight there too. Don't forget the floormats while you're at it.

I don't know about $2700 for intake/header/exhaust especially if you buy used parts. If I were in the market for making cheap HP I'd find a used JoeZ for 60-80, a used Tanabe or HKS Hi-Power for 300-350, have a local muffler shop delete the secondary cats for 60-100. Than all thats left is PPE Headers and you're still pretty far away from $2700. If you look around enough you can find lightweight SSR or Advan wheels for less than a grand and find someone selling a decent set of used tires for 200~
Fsport intake or JoeZ intake+Wald quad exhaust+Invidia or Megan midpipe+Headers+Toms throttle control= 3000 plus retail without hook ups and cheaper if you install everything yourself. Theirs alot of to consider and NO hating here.. Mod it if you're able too and part it out when you have to, since its technically not your car.
thanks for all the feedback! i contacted a guy at PPE and he gave me a rough estimate of $650 for the 250 headers. now what intake would you guys recommend? joe z/f sport/ or any other brands?
Its all good. I got the car when i was 17. Technically the car wasnt mine, since my parents bought it for me as my birthday present. Got my hks exhaust 3 weeks later, parents were cool with it. As long as i kept all my stock parts. Now couple years later, car is paid off. And they passed me the title. Its your money, do what you want to do with it. As long as your parents are cool with it, i guess. i was right where you were 2 years ago.
Just understand that a lot of people here, had to pay for their own car. And were not as fortunate to have parents that financially stable to buy their kid a car this nice. Or parents that gave their kids more than the necessary
But yeah. 250s are slow. There is really nothing you can do to make it fast. But you can try to make it faster, with those parts people have listed above. Just make it look sick, and people will give you props for having a sick looking car. That way you dont even have to drive fast.

honestly i myself am not against a young guy having a nice car, i am against an inexperienced driver wanting to add more power to their car thou... having said that...
the is250 is NOT something you'd wanna spend money on to make power anyway, only thing it'll make you faster than is other 250's, but not by much... spend your money on looks, suspension/rims first, dont waste your time/money on the GO when you should be going SHOW first... remember, drop first then rims.

Joe Z gives as much or more gain than anything else, and cost the least. It's not legal in CA, but then again neither are the headers you're putting on (and those are a lot more obviously not legal to an inspector than the Joe Z pipe will be)
I just really want the full potential out of my car. i want to make it sound nice and have some performance mods. after the headers and intake, i am definitely going to start customizing the exterior.
new question. removing the engine cover. could that possibly, in any way mess up my engine? i really don't even know why they have the covers on there!

imo the covers are for cosmetic and accoustic purposes. other than that, i see no reason why they're there. i've driven around without the engine cover, and nothing detrimental happened.
