Default IS 350 vs Acura TL

Hmm. I couldn't find any threads on the IS 350 vs the Acura TL-S. So here it goes....

Before I got the IS 350, I was considering the TL. Never got it because I thought it made me look like an old man. Hahaha. It had good specs but I never got to test drive one. Would an IS 350 easily take a Acura TL in a drag race? I know the IS has better handling but I can't find any hard evidence suggesting one is faster than the other. I am raising this question because a buddy of mine just got the TL-S (Stock) and he is telling me he is going to kick my booty in a race I don't think so. What do you think?

Feel free to offer to race him for money... the 350 is significantly faster (handles better too, thanks to being RWD)

Just be sure to do it safely, at the track

I believe based on the specifications from the Acura and Lexus websites that an IS350 will out run an Acura TL given that both drivers have the exact same driver skills/abilities. IS350s just have more torque at lower RPMs giving the 350 an advantage.

Acura TL's specs :
Horsepower @ rpm (SAE net) 280 @ 6200 | TL
305 @ 6300 | TL SH-AWD
Torque lbs-ft @ rpm 254 @ 5000 | TL
273 @ 5000 | TL SH-AWD

Lexus IS350 specs :
Horsepower at RPM 306 @ 6,400
Torque at RPM 277 lb-ft @ 4,800

Is that the 2009-2010 specs? His car is the 2007 TL-S.

here's all you need to know

http://www.roadandtrack.com/assets/d...car_dp.pdf.pdf

source 2, torquestats:

2007 Acura TL S
0-60mph 5.7s
0-100mph 14.3s
60-100mph 8.6s
1/4 Mile 14.3s
BHP 286 @ 6200rpm
Torque (lbs/ft) 256 @ 5000rpm

2006-2010 IS 350
0-60mph 4.9s
0-100mph 12.7s
60-100mph 7.8s
1/4 Mile 13.5s
BHP 306 @ 6400rpm
Torque (lbs/ft) 277 @ 4800rpm

Note: Obviously you need to completely disable traction control, and you need fantastic traction to get these times. This is easier said than done, especially if you're still running on the stock turanzas. My turanzas are awful and it's a miracle for me to get great traction from a dig. Definitely upgrading to better tires somewhat prematurely.

2010 TL on the other hand I can safely say I have no idea about. It's pushing over 300 HP at the crank now, I'm honestly not sure how it would stack up. I haven't seen any data on it yet.

Don't worry about it. As others have already shown you stats, the TL has less HP and LB-FT, is FWD vs your RWD, and TL's are heavier. Race for Pinks! Seriously tell him to put his money where his mouth is. Easiest coin you'll ever make

TL/TL-S never once came into the discussion hell any current honda production mdl.... it was all about a Legacy Spec B... then as the ducks started to line up, it was only the is350 and i didnt even bother to look at anywhere/anything else.

i contemplated on an 07 tl-s also. after much consideration, i decided to opt out for the is350. each car has its pros and cons. nevertheless, u can't go wrong with either car. in terms of speed wise, the is350 will definitely dominate the tl-s.

Your friend needs to see a doctor if he thinks his FWD Honda lawnmower can beat your IS350.
