Default Self-imposed rattle

So I am coming home from the office today and notice a very loud and nearly constant rattle. It sounded almost like a fan blade rubbing on something. I shut the climate control off, thinking it might be the fan in the A/C system. I also tried turning the fan to high. No difference in either case. It sounded like it was coming from the dash near the windshield..thinking it might be a speaker, I turned the Audio system off/on. Again no difference.

I also noticed that a sharp turn of the steering wheel made it go away for jusgt a second or so..very puzzling.

I'm thinking its time for a trip to the dealer. As I pull into the garage, I find the source: My ipod and ID badge from work were in the center console cup holder and rubbing together! A quick fix I am glad I found without looking like a fool at the dealership.

It was really weird how the sound transmitted to the dash

Yeah I know how you feel.

I had one for the longest time on an 2 hour freeway drive and it was driving me nuts, I was hitting every panel in the car to stop it.

Turns out my empty water bottle was rattling in the door's cup holder tray thing.

I've learned not to trust my directional senses when it comes to strange noises emitting from inside of a vehicle. I once had this annoying sound where it seemed like something was rolling around inside the dash. Every time I made a sharp turn I would hear it go to the other side. Finally, after being pissed off and smashing my fist against the dash, I found the real culprit - a nickel behind the passenger seat.

ya i thought i blew my speaker on my door and spent a good 30 min trying to listen to it and identify the noise. It ended up being my brothers metal watch in the side door holder thing. haha

Watch out for sunglasses in the overhead holder, they can also create some annoying rattles that took me a while to track down.

This thread is hilarious!!! Everyone sounds so paranoid. However, I experienced the same thing thinking my speakers blew...turned out to be the empty water bottle in the door!
