Yeah took me about 6 months to realize it was there also. Pretty dumb that they don't have it automatically turn on and off when you open and close the trunk.
It does turn on and off automatically when you open and close the trunk. The switch is so that you can leave the trunk open without running down your battery.
Really? I could've swore mine is either on or off. When I have it on, I closed the trunk as far as I could while still being able to peak inside to determine whether the light was shutting off. It appeared to always be on.
dude what are you guys talkin about...
can someone take a picture of said object?
I'd love to know how to get some light in my trunk... if you know what i mean.
Not on the moving trunk lid, but the underside of the trunk itself, right under the center mounted break light, is the trunk light. Center of the trunk compartment. Reach up and feel it. And about 1-1/2" to the right of center, you will feel a rocker switch. Turn it on and the light should turn on. And when you close the trunk, the light will be off. Like the guy said, it just allows you to keep the trunk open without draining the battery.
I had my 2008 IS for two years and didn't think I had a trunk light. I just got my 2010 last night, and again, thought I didn't have a trunk light. Seriously, they should have it on when you buy the car. Never, EVER had a vehicle come without a trunk light on. I know, my bad for not checking this out sooner. But come on ...
For some reason mine is not turning on when I open my trunk. When I manually switch it back and forth it comes on, but when I go to open my trunk it is not on.
Don't feel bad. I was ready to change out the blub. But....then I noticed an on / off switch. Moved the switch and BAMB......"Let thier be Light". I learn something new everyday

Did you leave it in the "on" position when you closed your trunk?

Good question. It's an awkward sized festoon bulb, I BELIEVE 29mm in length, perhaps less. I bought some 29mm LEDs so will confirm this in the next day or day. Right now I'm using a 31mm connector and hammered the ends in a bit so it fit.
FYI: the stock trunk lite housing is a POS, pop the damm thing open/replace a lite and theres a 50/50 chance it'll bend the slide (close the current thing) OR its the stupid too brittle wires connecting to the plug to the housing... mines broke so i tried to give my LED in it to my cousins bf (350) this xmas eve, light worked when the trunk opened, replaced the lite/didnt go on/reversed the bulb it flashed on as i was plugging it so i switched it off/got everything together AND~ now it doesnt work even with the stock blub... tried my housing too...
if your trunk light isnt working~ don't sweat it, just take it in for warranty.

Cool! I always turned it on everytime I opened the trunk--it looked so dinky, that i thought it was not automatic---it looks like it belongs in a Kia not a lexus.
