Clear coat does provide UV protection. It's like sunscreen for your hood. I always had my CF stuff cleared; some friends didn't and they discolored and yellowed. The UV protection in the resin of CF parts doesn't do that much. Every company promises that their hood is UV resistant; it never really is.
