Speedo and Odometer to Metric on 2006 IS250?
Considering an 06 IS250 AWD for my daily driver, and looking at US market to buy one thanks to how overpriced the Canadian market is in comparison while the exchange rate is good.
I know these cars have daytime running lights standard - which is good since we have to have DRLs in Canada.
However, what about the speedometer and odometer on the US-spec cars? Do they read in both US and metric (km) units?

^^^^Think about that for a minute. It's a US car, and if you could change it, the mileage (kilomiteage???) would read higher than it should. The speedometer's major scale is in miles, the kilometer scale is the minor scale. Couldn't you just convert it in your head?

The Lexus gauges are a bit old fashioned as there is no way to switch them to metric if desired. And the fact that you can't show the odometer and a trip odometer at the same time is just plain dumb. Why just one mileage display?
My 2004 Buick LeSabre that I inherited from my father-in-law has a button to switch the speedometer from Eng to Metric, and the odometers change as well, along with the gas mileage indicators which switch to "l/km". If GM could do it 6 years ago I don't know why Toyota can't do it now.

Well some good news - based on the regulations here for importing a US market car, the speedo MUST offer a display in km/h - if the dial doesn't show it with dual units, there has to be a readout elsewhere on the dash that does, like the Boxsters for example that have only mph on the analog speedo dial but offer an instant speed digital readout that can be switched to metric. With the odometer, if it cannot display metric, as part of the federalization inspection they put a sticker on the dash declaring that the mileage is in miles, I guess that way there's no misrepresenting the car's indicated mileage as kms if it is resold.

Wanna bet 100$ that its possible?
My USDM is250 awd was totally converted to metric including nav screen. Partially by easiest manipulations via Toyota service computer (Techstream or Intelligent tester 2), partially by more serious ECU hack. Nav screen sadly requires very brutal methods in order to make your climate system display Celsius
Converting dashboard computer to canadian regional settings (i'm not too familiar with it but I think it uses Celcius, km's and MPG?) is a matter of 2 minutes, you just need the above mentioned computer and select Canada regional settings in the car presets menu (i don't remember the exact name of the menu part). Its just that easy.
The only think i'm not sure of is the digital odometer. Can't say for sure if it starts to roll in miles or kms after you change the regional settings to Canadian, you'll have to test. In my case odometer was recoded to km's by dashboard ECU reflashing (you'll have to disassemble it), its something you wouldn't want to with a car under warranty I hear its also possible to get straight to jail over there if you play with odo and try to sell the car later
