Default Front License Plate Srews

Front plate is mounted to the OEM bracket on the front. When carmax swapped plates from the old car, they used some oddball sized screws and messed up the metal clips the plate screws on. The plate/bracket was very loose so I have to fix it.

I picked up a new OEM bracket for cheap (~$10) just so I could get those metal clips since no auto parts store had them.

Now my problem is, where do you get the correct size screws? The auto stores only have 6mm x 20mm. Which are way too long and if screwed completely in, they press against the bumper alot which pulls the bracket away from the bumper. I couldn't find anything at Home Depot that would work either.

So i'm thinking I need a 6mm x 10/12mm screw.

I'd just go to the dealer. I know that some people don't like paying dealer markups, but we're only talking about a couple of screws here. You probably spent more in gas driving between the auto parts stores, Home Depot, etc., than you would have at the dealer parts dept.

I went to Home Depot, then to Walmart, then to Advance Auto, and then back to Home Depot last night. I was on a mission. You know how it gets when you just want something done right and giving up really gets to you.

I know the dealer probably has the right part, but they aren't close by and for a couple of bucks I could probably get it online.

I was just curious what others have been able to find and where.

If the bracket wasn't already mounted, i'd go that route. But i'd rather not have exposed holes in the front bumper or those plugs.

If you have a vise, hacksaw and a file you can just cut off the longer screws and file the cut ends to round them to remove burrs, Etc.
