Default Rustproofing?

What do people think about rustproofing? Is it worth having underbody rustproofing protection (like that offered by Ziebart) applied to a new IS? I'm planning to keep the car for about 7 years and live in the Washington, DC area. Thanks for any opinions.

the paint/primer asks as rustproofing...there's is no need for it...its actually useless on pretty much any current car.

it's mainly for old cars that have bare chassis.

Corrosion Perforation Warranty
This warranty covers repair or replacement of any original body panel that develops perforation from corrosion (rust-through), subject to the exceptions listed in the Basic Warranty page. The Corrosion Perforation Warranty coverage is for 72 months, regardless of mileage.

I guess you could still get Ziebart added protection- especially if Ziebart covers more?

Cool

Being in Canada....I swear by rust-proofing. Much depends on several factors....how long do you plan on keeping the car, will it be exposed to alot of salt during the winter months & the actual rust-proofing product itself as there are many available.

I get all my cars (and family too) done every couple of years (even for the 'permanent' products). The product I use is called 'sym-tech' & it's a yellow paste type product that has been around for decades & improved during that time too.

I'll put it this way......I owned a 1991 Olds Delta 88 Brougham as my first car during the mid to late 90's....& did this religiously....I still see the car on the road from time to time & the body is in excellent condition. I just wish the current owner maintained it better lol.

Never get it done at the dealer.....they bend people over the barrel as it's a huge profit for them ($1,000+ for the 'package' is not uncommon). I pay cash under the table at the shop I use & save close to 80%.

I've heard many arguements from actual dealers sales staff that tell you never to have this done (and it might even void the factory warranty!).....as soon as I get in the 'business office' to buy the car, it's one of the first things they try to sell me (after that extended warranty).
