Anyone got pics of their smoked or tinted taillights?

I am trying to change my tailights but i dont know what to do.. I want to smoke out my taillights but i dont know

Sytfu_IS 12-28-08 10:21 PM

Here's a picture of all different taillights, pictures don't do justice...my smoked tails look different when it's sunny and when sun is going down. But if your car is SGM, I think light smoke looks really nice..just not black out haha. jw but are you in norcal or socal?

Sorry, I don't have close up pictures of mines

I say you leave the tail lights just the way they are.
Tints make it harder for people to see your car at night when you're turning, etc.
Many a time have I cursed at cars with heavily smoked lights because you can barely see them
also, they're sexy

AM1 12-29-08 01:31 AM

ill post mine in a bit. imo nothing looks better then a car with dark smoked tails. mine are smoked and same with the reflectors.

Ya, mines are steel...perfect for SGM imo but for black maybe the darkest smoke?

shadow191 12-30-08 06:22 AM

I would say get them painted. I had the Aerotect, and they were fine. But then I decided to have them painted and it looks so much cleaner. It just looks more natural. From a distance they looked the same, but up close, the paint looks factory while the aerotect had seams and not the same shine.

Plus the cost isn't that much more. I think I paid $65 for the aerotect and having a body shop paint the tails was only $100.

lightly smoked is okay.. but i find it hard to see people braking in the daytime when they have smoked tail lights.. that's definitely gonna be an issue

KrapWerdna 12-30-08 11:42 AM

i had some cheap ebay brand smokes.
it was really light but also dark enough to notice i had smokes. there was no problem with seeing my brake lights.

http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...smoketails.jpg

this is the only picture i have of it.

but i took them off kuz some lady rear ended my and ruined my taillights. and it wasnt because she couldnt see my brake lights, she was on the phone and wasnt paying attention.

if you want a light smoke for tails, go to aerotect.net and get the steel (35%) light smokes. and they do a really good job of installing.

believe me if i actually owned the IS, thats would i would do. i had the tails from one of my past cars painted and it was much darker and looked much better. unfortunately there are cons to doing that. since my car is leased i have to stick with overlays. :uh:

Cybereye04 12-30-08 02:10 PM

K I really like kerpwerdas lights but do dark lights really make it a lot harder for people to see it when u put ur brakes on? I want mine dark so idk I'd that would be a problem like if I want to spend 100 or so bucks I want to make it count

niteLEX 12-30-08 05:06 PM

mine are painted and you can see them very nice and it also has a mean look to it when the sun is almost down/nite. here is a couple pics of my own....

Im also plannning on buying the smoked or steel taillight film from AeroTect for my black 350. What about getting brighter bulbs as a solution to hard visibility during the day, has anybody tried that?

Damn hawaiian, looking very sick.. loving the colors!!

pocky 12-30-08 08:25 PM

Well, here is my "tinted" setup. Tinted signals & reverse lights. Very light and subtle tint.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v9...X/IMG_0597.jpg

This is a good example of my tinted tails compared to stock IS-F tails.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v9...rvecopymp9.jpg

Then again, I have IS-F tails. I just made a useless post. I just wanted to post pics of my car. :p

Tails are smoked. Don't waste your money on overlays - spend the money and do it right.
FYI - the bumper reflectors are painted same color as the car.

might want to try swapping in some LED lights for the stuff that can be swapped. remember that the tailight, high stop light, and brake light are LED's from the factory. i still think that since a lot of lights on the 2IS are already led's to begin with even with smoke they should be as bright as normal cars with regular filament type bulbs. in any case i have some extra LED 194 bulbs from a recent swap im going to try them in my rear turn signals or markers. :D

Thought I'd share. I've since upgraded to the Eagle Eyes, I want them tinted now... I miss my "blacked out look."

Didn't want to tint all of it, and I hated the orange so this is what I did...

bob4256 02-28-13 05:31 AM

I would leave the tail lights alone, smoking them out is very tacky IMO. I used to have my tails smoked out and it looked cool for about 2 days. You drive a Lexus, not a tC or civic (cars that I see the most with smoked tails), If you wanted black headlights, buy the 2012 LED headlights (which are currently on sale, AGAIN!!!).

Smoked out headlights/tails = teenage ricer mod

Blacked out headlight housing = aggressive and looks good

Stay classy guys!

lexusis07 02-28-13 05:41 AM

i used to have mine smoked, if your ganna do it, get them painted. to many curves to tint them. before you do it tho i would really think about the overall theme of ur car. if you want the murdered out look then you have to go for it, black wheels tails all chrome should be black. heres my old setup

http://i1309.photobucket.com/albums/...ps4cf8e1e6.jpg

if you do paint them you can change them back... but wet sanding tail lights for 4 hours then compound buffing them for another 2 really sucks.
