Default 2008 v8.1 Navigation Update

Has anyone done the 2008 v8.1 Navigation DVD Update? I have nav without the ML audio system so I have a CD changer rather than DVD. I did see on one of the nav screens an eject button for the nav DVD. Does it come out the same slot you feed your CDs into when you press this button? Just wondering as my prior car had a drive in the trunk area where you just swapped DVDs.

Nope, there's a single-disc DVD drive in the dash there, just have to pop off one small panel- there's tools to put in the holes to remove it in your toolkit in the trunk

I heard it's not easy to copy these discs. Some kind of bit setting capable recorder is needed.

I was just trying to eject my nav DVD today to back up my '06 firmware, but I can't get the clock face off. I tried using two paper clips, but I don't feel them catching on anything. Where exactly are those tools you speak of?

They are in your emergency toolkit by your spare tire.

Anyone know if the 8.1 firmware loads faster or has any other improvements besides the updated map? I am thinking of upgrading my 5.1.

I'm not sure if you got the postcard from Lexus or not, but you need to do the following:

Visit http://owners.lexus.com. Select Manage Vehicles>Navigation Map Feedback. You’ll find release notes listing the changes made since the Version 7.1 update, coverage overview and more.

The service lady at the dealership I go to surprised me and gave me the update for free. I didn't realize it until I set a destination a few days later. The turn-by-turn is reshaped and looks cleaner. Overall, the TbT features are prettier and you have new roads & POIs.

Go to the wesbite mentioned above and they break down, state by state, what new additions have been made.
