Attached is my fill from my 5K. I got the dealer to take the sample for me. While I'm not 100% sure this is my oil, here it is. It does seem similar to Technique's 10000 mile oil, even though we have very different driving styles. And I followed the "traditional" break-in of taking it easy. In fact, my car has hardly ever been stressed...

Default My oil report for my 25,000 mi oil change

Everything looks great except that I mysteriously got Lead in the oil? The only thing that I can think of is maybe those "unleaded" 100 and 104 fuels that I get at the track actually do have lead. I never add types of snake oils to the car, so this puzzles me esp since all the other reports that you guys post show ZERO lead in the oil samples.

I'm changing my oil every 3333 miles with Castrol Syntec 5W30. I don't care about these oil tests since the mineral deposits they are scanning in the oil is from wear and tear. These cars are very new and I don't see them having the internals wear rapidly yet. So that would probably be the reason why this oil lab has come to these test results. There are a lot of other factors to consider though. Oil that is overused will start oil ring land buildup and create increased blowby and oil consumption. The top and second rings will have problems sealing and not to forget the rubber components. The valve seals, crank and cam seals and gaskets will harden from overused oil and create leaks. These won't show up until several thousand miles later by then your dealing with a high repair bill. One thing will lead to another. As techs we've dealt with this sort of issues with the other V6 engines and we've had to replace several short blocks and heads on them from customers going 10K on their oil changes. Its your vehicle and you may do what you want to. This isn't just my $0.02 talking here.

This is the UOA from my first oil change...

Your oil change interval (OCI) - 10305 miles (approx 1 year from car build)
Your oil used (brand & weight) - 1st oil change, so it was the factory fill

I currently have 19300 miles on my car and will be changing the oil at 25k miles which should happen around August of this year as well, so 1 year between my first oil change and my 2nd...

I checked my oil level for the first time today and it was about 2/3 of a quart low! I stopped by the local shop where I get my oil changed and they put in 2/3 quart of Castrol 10W-40... I will be sure and note this when I send in my UOA for my 2nd oil change...

BTW, I don't think the engine burned off 2/3 quart of oil... When my oil was changed the first time, they didn't fill it up all the way and told me to come back a week later to top it off... I never did... I think they put in exactly 5 or 6 quarts, and the factory spec calls for something like 5.5 or 6.5... So I was probably 1/2 a quart short the entire time since my 1st oil change...

I have run all my cars to 15k for the past 5 years and never had any troubles. I am about 11k now. So you are just sending them a sample in a cup? I am interested in contributing to this also to see what mine shows at 15k intervals.

^Mike - go to www.blackstone-labs.com and you can request a free test kit to send them your sample in.

Default Results are in...

OCI: 14,000 miles, 13 months
Oil Used: Castrol 5W-30 I think, it was just the standard oil the shop uses for late model cars.

It was only 14,000 miles, not 15,000, but close enough... Anyway, the results are back and all is well... TBN was 0.8 (I'm surprised it was that high) and everything else looks good... Interesting comment they made about wanting to get the metals out of there... But this shows that regular, cheap oil can go to 14,000 miles in our cars with extreme conditions just fine IMHO, especially given my driving style (frequent redlines, frequent short trips)...

Default Official Blackstone UOA thread

Below is the first used oil analysis (Blackstone) on my 2007 IS350.

I picked up the car used in February with about 7,000 miles on it. I immediately changed the oil (M1 5W-30) and filter when I brought it home as I had no idea what was in there from the place who claimed it was changed at the dealer when it was traded in.

To get an idea of what was going on in the engine I changed the oil and again at 10,250 miles right before my 10K service at the dealer, taking a oil sample at that time.

Blackstone's comments are spot on. I drive 80%-90% city, mostly below 45, with quite a bit of idling (which would account for the fuel present in the oil at low concentrations). Note that the oil had ~3,000 miles on it, but the test brought back that it was the equivalent of 5K miles in wear. The wear number is curious. High percentage of city driving?

Anyone with insights or comments, feel free.

Merged into main thread.

Might want to compare your results with the results of others in this thread Janizary. Looks like you tossed a perfectly good load of oil at 3k. I've been running 10k on mine (Mobil 1 5w-20 per Lexus TSIB)

Agreed. I was just curious to see what the internal state of the engine was since I had not owned it from day 1. I figured if something showed up odd, it would at least give me a heads up on potential issues.

When I changed it at the 10K point, I put in M1 5W-20 (after reading the TSIB here). I'm curious to see my next oil sample on that oil, given my grind commute and the high summer temps in Vegas (110ish).

Thanks for the merge as well.
