ML Speaker Swap Ohm Problem
Okay I'm trying to swap out the OEM ML 6.5 in the front doors...the ML 6.5 is 8 ohms. The new 6.5 is 4 ohms. Is this going to over load the factory amp? Has anyone had problems yet? Thanks
It is hard to say for sure but in general, yes it has a good chance of overloading the amp. Typically, the amp would become too hot during use and go into a protection mode by turning off the speaker outputs.
I have not tried it so I can say for sure but I just doubt that the amp would be stable at 4 Ohms if it was designed for an 8 Ohms speaker in the doors.
Hopfully somebody else had tried it and can confirm (or not) my words.
