Thanks, I get what you guys/gals are saying. Thankfully the drive to CA and AZ are only a few hours away. If the price is right, I would of-course buy it locally...but at the same time I do not want to feel I got raped in a deal.

As far as invoice pricing goes, do the dealership actually go by the real invoice (what they actually paid for it) or some false invoice? The invoice prices I see on CL and Edmunds, etc. are substantial lower than what a dealership would reveal.

Try carsdirect.com they usually search out prices as close to invoice as possible if you dont want to travel. It is basically an autobroker.

Dealers really dont buy they cars. The are consigned the cars from the manufacture. They only pay for the car when it is sold. Plus they get kick backs on each car sold and how many were sold in a year.

Costco has a buying program. if your a member you can find a dealer in your area.

Good Luck spooks

Can we stop pretending that the dealership won't make money if they sell a car for invoice? Anything more than invoice is pure profit, but they do still make a profit on cars sold for invoice or they wouldn't sell them.

If I heard the lame comment about keeping the lights on, that would be enough for me to move on to the next dealer. Don't let them treat you like an idiot.

yah if you have time and can wait on they they will budge on the price. Just dont keep comming back and fourth and back and fourth it will show them you really want the car and they wont budge on the price. Its also good to deal on the internet :P internet sales are easier to get them to budge on the price. Here near Seattle, WA there is 3 dealerships close to each other two is own by the same owner and i needed a car because i had to go to school. I got a is250 xpackage with navi, HID headlamps and AFS, Accessory Package for 40k otd they would not budge on the price since this was 07 and WA has limited stock on hand so they deal you got is good but i think you can do better now tho and the ugly wood trim but it wasn't lux package, cuz it don't have memory seats.

Once again, thanks for all the advice...

Tustin Lexus has quoted me $36,058, before T,T&L

The options are: PT, FT, HL, and Z2

This is the car I am looking for and feel this might be a good deal for me. I really don't mind for the Nav. system as I have seen what the Infiniti system can do. The internet sales guy said he's selling it for $500 over invoice.....

I posted this in the "total discount off msrp" thread, but wanted to update this as well.....

Lexus of Westminster is offering to go $400 below invoice of $33,649 for an IS250.

Options are: PT, NV, FT, Z1, HL

MSRP: $38,245

I originally wanted an IS350 without the Nav., but they didn't have my color combination and it was harder to negotitate.

Thoughts??

Funny, just a few weeks ago I bought mine from out of state...

I wanted an IS250 for awhile and knew I couldnt afford a new one, so I started looking at other cars under $30k and just didnt like anything... So I started looking at used 07' low mileage 250's and I found one on the internet at a Toyota Dealership in San Jose California, the exact color and options I wanted. I haggled with them over the phone for a day or two and finally made a deal, put deposit down with my CC, without even seeing or driving the car in person, flew one-way from Phoenix and drove it back 8 hours!

Was a fun day, worth the $80 plane ticket and $90 in gas...

Great car at a great price.. (imo)

07 IS250 Smoky Granite
Premium package w/ alot of extras..
10k miles
paid $27,990. + tax

(OP) There are 2 Lexus dealerships here in Phoenix and I tried to haggle on a 250 and they did say they were slow and needed to sell some cars so they offered me a great price on a new 250, but new was still out of my price range..

IMO, the most important thing is that you get what you truly want/desire. THEN you negotiate on the price. Don't settle for a car just because it's easier or more convenient to find. You'll prob end up not liking the car as much and regret not going for what you truly want.

I got the IS250 from Westminster in O.C. I drove it back to Vegas and absolutely loved it. Although I wanted the 350, after negotiating and going back/fourth, I decide to sacrifice HP for luxury. On the way back to Vegas, the drive was smooth and the nav was very very useful....

I bought my IS350 from the Pleasenton dealer. Got basically 2% over invoice. $40800. Was originally starting at $42900.
IS 350 with these options:
- Luxury Package w/18-in wheels (as specified on lexus.com)
- Navigation System/Mark Levinson® Premium Audio System Package
- Rear spoiler
- Accessor Package

Really helps to do your homework. Knowing what the invoice, typically paid prices, and having pre-approved credit also helps. They dropped another 0.25% off the already low 5.25% from my bank.
