Attitudes
i agreed pretty strongly w/ the original poster after his thread. And to Giggity, you went a little hard on him. I too got my Lexus at a young age(still am young), and am sick of people for putting me down for it... sorry i got lucky, but you gotta understand that just because we didn't necessarily earn all the money for it, it doesnt change whether or not we're a car enthusiast. I would be a car enthusiast if i bought a car out of a junkyard, or if my dad helped me get my 250 (as happened). My friends dad bought him a brand new Audi A6.. the kid doesnt care for it, doesnt know what it is or how nice it is, to him its just a car, and he wouldnt have noticed what brand it was. So don't put him down because he lives in an affluent area and is fortunate enough to be given such a nice car so early, and he clearly states how grateful he is for it.
Alot of people want to give the Audi guy the benefit of the doubt, but i kind o f have a pet peeve at people who don't speak in public. If someone comes up to you and says nice car, whether he is a 5 year old kid, a 20 year old car enthusiast, or an old man, you acknowledge. you shake your head, you smile, you say thank you. You say oh yes i just bought it, or yeah its fun to drive. You dont stand there and suck your tounge thinking your hot-****. As for the IS-F guy, his attitude seemed more my style, although i'd never let anyone drive my 250, not to mention if i had an IS-F..
Its a clear break when you find someone with a nice car because they want people to know they have money, and when you find someone w/ a nice car because they love cars..

I think its a honor to have someone say "nice car" so why not return the favor by saying "thank you" i havent ran into anyone who got mad or irritated about their cars. A few times they asked if i wanted to see inside.. Seeing Lambos, maserati and Bentleys are pretty common in LG(los gatos) when i tell how i thought about their ride they always have a huge grin and say "thanks"

Today must of been my lucky day...
I live in a decently wealthy town; lots of BMWs, Mercedes, Lexus etc... Occasionally a Ferrari or Lambo will cruise around but very rarely.
Anyway, I am on my way to class and decide to stop at Whole Foods. As I am pulling into the parking lot, I see a car waiting to pull into a spot that's about to open up. I ignored the vehicle that is cautiously waiting, but something tempted me to look back. It was an Audi R8. I am a huge fan of the R8, so I recklessly parked my IS250 to catch the person getting out of it. This overly confident (wants people to think he has money) guy steps out of the vehicle. I instantly knew this fool had no game with the ladies, but anyway... I politely say, "Nice ride, first one I've seen around here. Care to show me it?" With his lips sealed, he glares at me then squints his eyes in a way that illustrates "That's nice," then he nods his head and continues walking. Not one word came out of this fools mouth. As he walks away slowly with his embarrassing swagger, I'm thinking to myself, "Money doesn't buy happiness."
To continue on... I walk into the store buy my Brown Rice, trust me I think this rice had more character then that guy did. Anyway, as I am leaving the store I decide to walk around and examine the R8 a little more. Before I had time to even blink twice an IS-F had pulled up and parked right next to the R8. I'm thinking to myself while laughing, "What's going on here...? This can't be happening." The guy gets out of the IS-F. He starts talking to me about the R8 asking questions like, "Beautiful car huh?" "I've been reading a lot about this car." Etc... Him and I chatted for a little bit, but rudely I ignored the IS-F. After a bit, I instantly changed the subject to his IS-F. Showed him my IS250 and then back over to his ride. I mentioned to him that I would trade my car in immediately for an IS-F, but I guess being a college student at the age of 20 creates a brick door that I have not yet received the key for. He continues to talk and mentions how he would kill to have a car like the IS250 at my age. I told him as much as I love the car it makes me sick to my stomach owning something like a Lexus at my age. People stereotype me etc... He countered my complaints and said some wise words.
After a little more conversation he offers to let me drive his IS-F around the block. I thought he was joking, but it turned out he was serious. I instantly took him up on the offer. I was intimated to not drive aggressively, so I was not able to experience the power, but the basic "town" drive was more than enough for me. All I gotta say is, all you IS-F owners are very lucky!
To conclude, I received a huge reality check tonight. I looked at myself like, "I hope I don't come off like that R8 owner did towards other people." I ran previous moments where people have asked me questions about my car, and they checked out. I was always warm-hearted and friendly with those people. I relieved myself a little bit when I answered those moments. I also questioned... Do I really need a car like this? As much as I love it... Is it worth it? I do the best to not let the car influence my character, and friends have told me that I do not ever bring it up, unless asked about it. I guess I am just having a hard time figuring out what I want to do... Do I want to trade it in? Iono... I am confused. Running into the R8 owner and the IS-F owner raised a lot of questions for me.
On a positive note. I hope all IS-F owners are friendly like this guy was. LOL!
The car is beautiful, and experiencing the IS-F in real-life is completely different than in pictures.
Hope I didn't bore anyone.... I wanted to share my experience that I had this evening.
Thanks,
Awol

Actually, I was basing it on an article I read the other day:
http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/...GT2_first_test
'The GT2, in contrast, effortlessly surfs waves of torque, and its control efforts are fluid and easy-at modest speeds, it drives like any other 911. Ride quality in either mode is pain-free (our long-term Mini Cooper S, to name one, is far harsher). The leather seats (there are only two) are wonderfully deep, backed with carbon fiber, and trimmed with rich Alcantara (as is much of the rest of the cabin). Navigation and Bose surround sound are optional. The GT2 even returns 23 mpg on the highway and qualifies as a LEV-II on emissions.'
Sounds like a nice ride to me

As far as those cars go, if I hadn't seen that room (including dance pole) woulda never believed it...
The more I think about it...
It's really unfair for you to have made all those characterizations of the R8 guy simply from a one way 3 second encounter. From that encounter, you already determined that he is an unhappy person with less personality than brown rice despite having money and that he had "no game with the ladies".... This is how fast you judge people? Because they didn't stop what they were doing and give a random kid a tour of their R8 in a supermarket parking lot?
Maybe the guy was in a rush, maybe he didn't speak much English, maybe he's going through a divorce, maybe his kid is sick and he's just not in the mood for chitchat. Maybe he had unfair stereotypes about you that you wish people didn't have either.... Either way, this incident actually says something about you as well...

Posting rants about strangers in parking lots says more about the poster's character than that of the subject. It's not like he peed on your IS or something. If anything, the guy with the IS-F was a little "off"...who lets a stranger drive their new $65k car?!?
If I were that guy, I would be pissed about having to park my R8 in a supermarket parking lot in the first place, and would be trying to get the groceries and get the hell out of there ASAP before getting dinged!
They do make it sound very sweet....I was basing my comparison on the 996 GT2 since the 997 GT2 is not even available yet....although that description sounds pretty amazing....just dont see it though...something THAT hardcore on the tracks and they make it sound like a *****cat on the street...hmm...well I guess its what 200k buys you.
LMAO that you can't say *****cat.
Honestly, that was not my intention. But, you can't make character judgements on somebody because he wouldn't share his car with some kid.
I agree completely with 15591.
For all you know R8 guy just got told he has nut cancer and has to have is junk removed.
Personally, I find it a little creepy when complete strangers approach me about my cars, unless I'm at a car show or a track event or a GTG when showing off your car is the point of the gathering.

^^ yeah that is true... but i think the odds running into someone just after they have such a tramatizing event happen is just about equal to running into someone with an R8 in the parking lot... put together running into someone after a tramatizing event, who drove their R8 to the supermarket, and your going slim to none - imo, especially a mature'd man, when someone compliments you, you acknowledge, even if your life is crashing down, someone takes the time and breathe to tell you you have something nice, you should at least smile... some kid just did what you bought that car to do, draw attention.
