Bros, Sorry for being such a NOOB but some things outstanding in my mind are:
- 4300.... 5k.. 6k...9005.... these numbers are not a measure brightness but by the tint of yello/blue/ purple they produce?????
- where does the trem "bleed" come in?
- from viewpoint of brightening the road.... any chance a 5k led that brightens the road like stock bulbs? (27SMT is overkill??)

The 4300k- 1000k is measured in Kelvin as in temperature of the lightbulb. So on the Kelvin spectrum 3000k is yellow. and 4300K is suppose to be a pure white

Bleed means like a "leak" into the high beam housing, so light from the HID(low beams) has a slight leak into the high beam housing( which is where your parking lights are)

The parking lights dont do a whole lot, so it should brighten up the road like HIDs or any headlights.

 

The Kelvin scale measures color temperature. The scale doesn't really tell about brightness, since light intensity would be the same, be it from 4300K or 10000K. Its the fact that the higher up the Kelvin scale you go, the more the light wavelengths starts to move out of the range the human eye can pick up, similar to how we can't see ultraviolet light or gamma rays. 4300K is said to illuminate the best because its the closest color to natural sunlight. As you start to move up the scale you start to spend more of the energy producing light the eye can't see.

There is no 5K led. The SMT number just tells you how many leds are mounted on the bulb. 5smt has 5 leds, 11 has 11, 27 has 27, etc. The more leds you have, the brighter that bulb will be. But since light from a led is too diffuse, it can't be used to illuminate the road, unless you use a lot of them together with a good focusing lens or collimator. But the cost of the number of leds you'd need to rival the output of an HID bulb would be through the roof.

That's tight, triple_c do you have a picture with the HID off at night time? I want to see how the DRL itself looks like. That isn't stock foglight is it?

 

not yet, but i can take more shots once i get home. i think others have posted similar pics with vleds parking lights with the hids off. it might be faster if you look for those.

my fogs are silverstar ultras. i hoped they'd be whiter, but i guess it matches ok with the stock hids.

Those silverstar doesn't look that white, maybe it looks better irl

 

they do look a bit whiter irl, but not by much. waste of $50, imo. when these burn out i'mma replace them with polargs.

 

You think these gonna look good? I hope they are really white though. Actually I had some bad experience with v-leds but after this I probably gonna give them another try.

 

i have those in my drls. same color as the parking lights, so they're slightly bluish. during the day when the sun is out you can't tell they are on, which means most the time, people won't even know you have drls. this is why i got them. during the day, there is no ugly yellow glow in the front of my car. when it gets close to evening, the headlights kind of have a bluey-white tinge to it. they also flicker in drl mode, but switch to constant-on when in high-beam mode.

if you haven't bought them yet, i'd wait on those drls. according to vleds, they are going to release a new 3w drl led bulb with a special circuit so they won't flicker.

 

I haven't bought them yet, you know how long its gonna take for the 3w DRL to come out? I really hate my DRL and Foglight and want to change them both. And I also think I will suk at the DIY lol, but I will give a shoot tho

 

not too sure, last i heard the timeline was march. DIY is cake. its a tight fit tho, so wear gloves

If you've been to singapore, you'll know the roads are well lit... you'd be blind if you couldn't see a car...

My final decision is I'm gonna go for the 27SMTs for position and headlights...
HB's will stay filament bulbs... their my backups should LEDs not be bright enuff...
but now you've mentioned... wonder how the 3w DRLs would be
