No I-4 can smooth rev compared to a larger engine. You need extra cylinders for smoothness. A V-8 Lincoln Town car only had 210hp in 1995 but it was SMOOTH compared to a 205hp I-4 Acura TSX.

Europe is just different, I-4 is popular b/c of TAX RAPE and GAS PRICE RAPE. In America, we always had cheap gas, thus I-4 became popular only after the gas crisis of the 70s....

Also that Audi you mention is FWD. No thanks.

Exactly. Toyota is for I-4. Send Acura the memo

Now I would LOVE to see an IS hybrid. Possibly, just possibly the I-4 Hybrid from the Camry with 190hp, could be of interest.

the audi 2.0 T is very erratic and high revving...It is not even close to smooth...It actually sounds like a diesel...Actually Audi is the only premium brand that carries a 4 cylinder...And it runs like crap...I know from experience...It lags like crazy under hard acceleration...Handles well but that has nothing to do with the engine...

I would have loved for Toyota spent the money and developed a world class all aluminum inline six. A modern successor to what preceded.

Uhhhh.....it would have be even cheaper than it already was since no matter how much power you make i4 always < v6 to most buyers.

So I'd vote no unless it was significantly cheaper with a mileage inscrease of at least 15%. Impossible? Maybe that's why I didn't get a TSX =)

I beg to differ

I bought and IS250M on Dec 21 07 and Audi A4 2.0T Sline on Jan 14 08.

Audi is A BETTER product hands down. Mine is very smooth compared to the 250 (I got the manual) The multitronic tranny make it very smooth.

Actually I could make you a step by step milage comparison @ 5K in the next month or so.
The day we pick up the Audi I could not keep pace with my wife, the Audi is faster from a still stand. Actually I have to get the 250 to at least 4.7K rpms to try to catch her. I think it is around the rev time when the VVTi kicks in. The final nail in the coffin is that my wife is no speed junkie, she does not even knew she was going up to 90MPH, which I was totally aware off , mainly because of the Lexus revs Screaming and all the wind noise though the cockpit ( sorry the cabin )

There is a Link to the rides in another page (to discourage the BS talk)

http://www.audivwcrewpr.com/viewtopi...834&highlight=

Going back to the original question a 2.5 Turbo four (as in the Starion) would not hurt, although it would not go well with the Lexus Brand, but I will buy it in a millisecond

^^^i dont think we were driving the same audi vehicle..I have driven several different models from audi and the multitronic tranny is not even close to smooth...huge lags

thumps from the tranny when coming to complete stops (audi mechanic diagnosed this problem as normal) he said the car does not know whether to be in first or second gear...my pet peave especially in stop and go traffic on the high way...it got very annoying...

shift lag on hard acceleration which leads to a jerking motion...

and no the audi 2.0 T is not faster than the lexus is 250...i dont know the 0-60 numbers but from personal experience the lexus just feels faster...

only department where audi wins is handling sorry...

I would say no to the I-4, i like the V6. Compared to my old audi A4 2.0T this car hands down to me feels faster more reponsive and by far smoother, and plus the 2.0 ran hot from when i bought it.
