Default TPMS sensors

hey guys, just double checking... am I supposed to see where the metal plate is on the other side of the sensor? Shouldn't it be a cover or something to cover it up?

and is it the ETC numbers I should keep a note of it when bring it to the dealer to initialize it for my second sets of wheels?

No need to cover anything. The numbers you want to write down are located next to the 2D barcode on top of the sensor although I think the dealer's scantool is capable of pulling this without you having to show it to them.

This is what they need from the one you posted: C9EB171

Not sure if its true to not. Of the 3 dealerships I spoke to, they said they need the sensor in their hands to program it to the car. I found it odd as well because I was going to write down the info and give it to them so I could mount the TPMS in my aftermarket wheels.

Can any Lexus/Toyota techs help out with this question?

Hey Ben,
I just had the unlucky misfortune of having to replace my whole wheel due to an accident, so I'm fimiliar with this situation.

What you want to do is write down all the numbers that are on the sensor. The Dealer will know which one to look for. I'd tell you, but I cant remember what the numbers start with. Write down all three set of numbers, just to be safe.

You want to bring the other wheel in as well, or atleast the sensor from the other wheel thats being replaced...becuase they have to be able to tell the cars CPU which sensor must be reset ie, which wheel is getting a new sensor ID. (Unless you're replacing all 4 wheels/sensors, then it wouldn't matter, they'll just reset all 4).

Hope this helps.

I purchased a new sets of wheels with new sets of sensors. And at the same time, I'm keeping my OEM wheels. So does it mean when I put on the new wheels for the dealer to initalize it, I needed to bring my OEM wheels for them to reset?

But I thought we get to keep 2 sets of TPMS IDs in our car?

You can keep 2 sets programmed to your car. 1 set for "winter" and the other for "summer."

Remember to program the 2nd set before you put them in the wheel. Its about 100 bucks to program them, but I am sure you can persuade your service adviser to do it for free.

Please explain why? Can't I have the sensors installed first then bring it over to the dealer to initialize it?
