the chance of the hack going bad is pretty small if you take the time to do it correctly; even for people with little electrical experience it's quite easy. The hardest part is actually removing the unit, which still needs to be done with the switch. $300 is too much!

Guys I e-mail them, about the product and this is the answer:

Thank you very much for your inquiry on the override unit.

First of all, please let us clarify that in order for the DVD override to
function, you need to have ML system on the car. The ML system allows DVD
playback when the car is in P, and the override will allow playback when
the car is in motion.

Since your car doesn't have ML, the most you can get out of the unit would
be nav override (which enables nav, phone, POI, audio tracks, etc...).

It's correct that at this point we have only verified the system on US
spec LS460. Manufacturer has confirmed that the unit works for JDM spec
2nd generation IS and 3rd generation GS, but we haven't been able to
verified that for the US spec, especially for cars without ML.

Current we are selling the override unit at $299 (plus tax for CA
residence) as a promotional price. The advantage of this module is that
it's completely plug and play and there is no need to modify any of the
wiring. We have only secured a limited quantity of the modules. We want
to make sure the units work on the 2nd generation IS before we release the
product.

Please give us a bit more time to verify the unit, then we'd be more than
happy to order it to all customers. Thank you again for all your help and
support. We will keep you posted.

Regards,

Chung

Yes, the chance of going bad is pretty small. Once you found that your nav doesn't work (not because of the nav hack, but something else). Bring it to the dealer and ask them for the warranty.

Haha, that's funny. So, in other words, it isn't made of magic such that it can get a cd player to play dvds.....good info.

Did anyone actually think that you could get a cd player to play dvds?

I'm going to wait for the module that allows me to play cassettes in my cd player, that would be worth the price of admission.

NO BODY or me said that this will get the cd to play dvds the only thing I mentioned is that this module will do the nav hack and for those who have ML will them watch dvds also.

while you wait for your module, maybe you can use this also, its for playing
cds on cassettes just in case you get bored waiting for your module
also is very cheap its only $5.99

I am very interested in one. We can't do a group buy on CL since they are not a sponsor, right?

no, unless they are CL vendors, they can't do GB here.

for all those who did the manual hack, i have a question for you (those with ML). when you are playing dvd while the car is moving, can you press on MAP and it goes back to navigation, which is still tracking your vehicle (the arrow moving)?

And say you put in destination, it starts to guide you, and then you override the system and go watch dvd. does the guidance system still work and keep on guiding you when you drive (ex left turn ahead, etc...)?

the discussion of the nav-hack and dvd for non-MLs have been goin on for along time i have found two things that may work for non-ML owners to play DVDs, basically u need a DVD Player and a units have rca inputs plugs to make it work...i have been searching the internet and found these two modules that may work but no confirmation that someone has installed it and it actually works as to weither or not it really works here are the links:

AVElectronic:
