Food for thought...
Most people I know are having BMW realibility issues within the first 12 months... Break downs, transmission failures, electrical failures, etc, etc, etc..

Last thing I want to see, is someone buy a car and its in the shop more then the Open Road...

In my opinion I consider the BMW brand:
"The Ultimate Un-reliable Driving Machine"

+1 with Honda and a Lexus..
I agree! Bimmers are neat, even though their tail lights are little to be desired as they look cheap on an otherwise nice looking car. Only twice have I/we strayed and purchased BMWs. Two E46s (330i and M3) proved to be the cause of more headaches than we bargained for. I doubt the E90 line will be any less troublesome based on the feedback in the BMW forums. The frequent trips to the BMW dealership and one tow due to electrical problems now has us being a firm Lexus / Toyota, and Honda / Acura buyer.
It comes down to reliablity and quality to me. While the 335i may have the "performance" edge to the IS350 or other competitors, it simply doesn't have the same reliablity.
To the OP, good luck and enjoy your BMW! Hope it proves to be problem free for you (I say that with sincerity).

The IS is fun..But when your cousin is regional sales mgr for BMW...what does it matter? They have FULL coverage for anything that isnt gas or tires. It's a drivers car..I am 25..not married..no kids..just bought a condo...got cash in the bank..working hard...I want a fun toy..as much as the Lexus is reliable..and I agree...I can't wait to mod those twin turbos. AND I don't give financial advice..I provide IT consultants/staff that develop or do anything technically related to the financial services industry...
Be careful how you mod those twin turbos or you'll be kissing that FULL coverage goodbye!!!!

Ya that is a good choice. My friend has that car and driving it, is a lot of fun. If you dont mind your car not being as sporty, i think interior is way nicer on a lexus.

having a bmw and a lexus i can say the bmw is GARBAGE. they're all lemon's it doesn't matter if it was built the friday before a long weekend or a wednesday after a pay increase, they break...often. enjoy. it'll be a nice car for about a week. just pray the turbo's don't go. remember it's a new technology that bmw's using. remember the 7 series in it's first year.

I was just checking out the Bimmer forums for the E90 series.
http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum...play.php?f=189
Sadly, so many owners of new 335i and 328 are having so many problems well before reaching 10k miles. I empathize with them, having "been there / done that" a few years ago with BMW. Don't get me wrong, I'm not bashing on BMW. Rather, I'm just saying it like it is based on personal experience and from what others are actually reporting. Fact is, most, if not all, of the other makes and models simply do not have the reliability that comes with a Lexus, Toyota, Honda, or Acura.

So the 335i is tad faster and tracks a bit tighter than the IS350. What good is it if the BMW is in the shop?

Yeah, except they keep selling like crack. They are fun FUN cars to drive, that's why they sell. Most people buy them for that reason, some buy them for status and others buy them because they are loyal to the brand.

The problem is that, selling like they do, there isn't much reason to work out the QC issues....

^^that's precisely what GM said in the '60s.

I don't necessarily think Internet forums are good gauge of the average owner's experience. We certainly have our share of owners with complaints of all kinds in the first 10k miles. No manufacturer has a lock on quality, every single one of them builds lemons sometime.

Enjoy the new ride. I hope it delivers everything you expect and more.

Ditto....if you want a real sports car that's both reliable and can be used as a daily driver check out a Boxster S or Cayman S. The two people I know with 335i's enjoy the cars when they have them, but both are spending an inordinate amount of time in the shop.

When only the best will do:

Good job with the trade i thought about doing the same thing, but i think i like my 350 overall just a tad bit more than the 335, however here in houston i have seen some pretty sick BMW's that make me want one!

Just to note that the Cayman is really a hardtop Boxster. Both great sports cars, and it's interesting to note that Porsche actually charges more for the handtop than for the convertible. Porsche also makes it very easy to factory order either car in whatever configuration you want. Something Lexus needs to learn if their performance offerings like the IS-F are to be taken seriously.

Grats on the 335! I cant knock it much

But man, Its not worth taking the hit to trade in the IS350 after 1.5 years for it. Its perf is just not that much more to justify it in my opinion (besides the obvious loss of lots and lots of luxo). If you bumped up to an M3 then maybe so.
