i suspect since the 08's dont require the press of the "I agree" button anymore mine will do that also with the new software version.
Where did you hear that the "I Agree" screen is going away in the 2008 models? I don't think that's true, but I guess we'll know in a month or two when they hit the dealers' lots.

This will not happen on the Lexus nav... The acura nav system uses windows CE or something, hence it can be hacked and modded...

The Lexus system is Denso proprietary, there is no way to modify it...

This is also the unfortunate truth of the engine management code.

Ya... My BMW friend who has a supercharged M5 doesn't understand this concept... He's always playing with the fuel maps and stuff and asks me why I don't "chip" my car or mess around with engine computer settings...

directly from the sales manager, i was very speciffic when i bought the 07 of any changes due in 08 before i made my decision, short of pinning them down on the floor and choking someone i was very adiment about getting straight answers.
the sales manager grabbed a sheet she said they just got from the rep a day before.
the only changes to the IS are supposed to be the addition of a coin holder, the rear seat has been redesigned slightly to allow more rear leg room and the i agree screen will wait (i forget ) 10-20 seconds and then go away. i dont know if when it "goes away" means it goes to the navi screen or goes blank or what i just know you wont have to push it anymore.
it seems there were a lot of complaints in this area and lexus responded.
in a month i guess you can say you heard it here first!

Interesting.. so I guess complaining to Lexus does work. Guess they were willing to take the risk of not having us push "I Agree" anymore. Now how about the rest of the nav/audio system? Wonder how much complaining that'll take to get those restrictions lifted, clearly some amount of complaining works on them, and being sued must not be their main concern if they are willing to change it based on customer opinion. Time will tell as the first shipment of 2008s will ship out shortly if they haven't already.

Not to be a party pooper, but with that bit of legal protection gone for Toyota, and a probable increase in their liability insurance rates, can we expect a related price increase to compensate?

I would imagine if more people decide to buy aftermarket instead as I have, they'll either have to increase the price or drop the product to cover costs. I seriously doubt the nav "I Agree" button will significantly affect their product liability rates, I'm sure they're absurdly high right now anyway because so many idiots would sue for the smallest of things in hopes of any cash settlement in lieu of going to trial.

If I sued over the "I Agree" button, I would want a free update for everyone who complains about it as a "fair" settlement. How about sign a document once when you buy the car and call it a day?

And since the previous version had to have the driver press the 'I Agree' button before accessing the system wouldn't a sharp lawyer be able to argue that Toyota REMOVED a safety feature the first time somebody injures someone with the new system?

Well the price of the 350 is going up $200, but the more popular 250s are down, so overall I'd say they are charging less. That could just mean other parts have gotten that much cheaper to offset a higher liability insurance rate. I could be wrong, but I'm not a believer in the liability insurance as being the reason/excuse for locking down the nav features. There are too many variables involved to say how much that really matters. I think it's more of a PR/marketing thing about the safety of the car.

Blah, blah, blah. You guys crack me up, you get giddy over a self removing 'I agree' nag screen. ZZZZZZ. Wake me up when Lexus does something truly inspiring like a true rev matching sports mode for the paddle shifters . . .

I guess it depends on what's more important to you. I don't have a real problem with the driving of the car, it gets me from point a to point b just like a Ford Escort would, but the "luxury" options which I am paying a premium for over the Ford Taurus are no longer easily accessible when the car is in motion, and that bothers me.
