i think you will be satisfied with performance. but handling i think you should do a testdrive cuz your coming from a 100% sports car and of course there will be a difference between that and a LUXURY sports car.

Yeah, really can't compare the cars. The Lexus is obviously a huge upgrade in the comfort and luxury, but simply can't feel the same as the Z. I'm not sure how the objective numbers stack up, but clearly the performance feel is going to be a lot different, even if the numbers tell you they are similar (at least in a straight line).

Very different cars. I rode in a Z a week ago, and I had to practically fall into the seat. Those things are low, and it was stock. They ride like crap - typical sports car. I'm sure they handle well, but I use my car to drive to work and for going out...I've never done autocross or a canyon run with the road closed.
They're also very cramped on the inside, that that's saying alot coming from an IS350 owner. Our cars aren't exactly huge, but the Z is a much smaller 2-seater. The seats are great, though...great side bolstering, very supportive.

You might also want to check on the threads about car seats in the ISx50. The comments are mixed, but unless you are not especially tall, the back seat room for a car seat may not be sufficient. It all depends on how you and your SO fit in the car first. The IS back seat...well...go ahead and search a little, you'll see what I'm getting at.

A few of us in this forum have gone from an S2000 (similar to the 350Z) to the IS350 and have no or minimal complaints in terms of "performance" and "handling". Handling: The IS350 is certainly a more refined (smooth) ride and it handles nicely. While the S2000 was fun and felt as if on rails, I feel that the IS350 is an all around better car. You may want to opt for the sport package for enhanced handling or upgrade to either Tein or Eibock if you get another package. Performance: Just as fast, if not faster, than both the S2000 and 350Z.
I would also suggest to check out the G37 which is more in line to the 350Z that you are accustomed to. However, with a child, a four door will allow for greater ease of getting in and out of the car seat.

Yeah, I don't think an IS is the car for someone looking for a family hauler. Sure, the baby seat will fit but it's awfully cramped back there. Not much room for putting the babyseat in and taking it out.
In my experience, the 350Z has more front space than an IS.
The BMW 3 series has much better interior room than the IS. You may want to check them out.

You should go try it yourself, it's how the front seats feel to you that matters, & of course you can recline the IS seats much further than the Z.
I think the IS350 back seats are sufficient as a family car with small kids, but with child seats, it depends on how big the parents are too, which will affect how easy it is for you to put the child seats in & out of the seats. If you want more rear seats space, I think you should consider the new G35 sedan too, best interior space in it's class, particularly the rear, I've driven it as a loaner, it's a big improvement over the old.

Also some want to see if space is left for the rear passengers. All that influences what people consider front seat space. Check out the car in person and bring a baby car seat if you have one handy to see if it fits.

i am a pretty big guy and i have owned a g35 and currently own an is350. The is has more leg room than my suburban! hip room is good it just sits lower. Getting in and out is a snap and the seat are really large and comfy. I just took my family of five on a 600 mile round trip and it was fine, they (wife and kids) are all small though. One of the main reasons i got rid of my g35 was the front seat sucked and had those damn seat controls right on the seat. getting in and out was much more difficult. plenty of headroom in the is as well

I'm 6-2 270 so I'm bigger than most.
If you're a normal sized person, the IS should be fine.

I don't know which year Z I sat in but yeah, it was more roomy than an IS to me. I tried testing the IS at least 5 times. Every time I hit my head on the door opening (A pillar). Shoulder room was narrow. Hip and leg room were fine but sort of narrow. I was completely comfortable in the Z. More so than in the G35 I drove for a year with that horrible seat.

The IS350 is quite small, so take a look at the car before making a final decision. Bring a baby seat too. Power is very good, and as a luxury sports car, it does have some good handling capabilities, but nothing like the Z (no manual for the IS350). Also depending your package, you may or may not get the sport package.
