Default 5k Maintenance free at any dealer?

Hey everybody,

I have two questions for y'all, but let me give you a little background info first. I recently graduated from Auburn University (which is located in Alabama, for those who don't know), and I am moving to the University of Florida for grad school in the month of August. Anyway, I am currently back in my home state of VA for a little vacation from work and school. And to make things more complicated, I bought my 350 in Atlanta.

Okay, now I can finally get to my questions:

1) Does the first free maintenance work at any Lexus dealership, or only the one that you purchased from?

mini side-question: How far in advance should I have to call ahead if I want to get the lower-dust brake pads?

2) Let me preface this by saying this isn't completely a Lexus related question so you don't have to help me out with it if you don't want .
Anyway, my tags are from Alabama, but within three weeks of being back I am moving to Florida and getting everything for my car switched over to Florida. My Alabama tags will have expired by the time I get back. Does anyone have any idea what the fine for expired tags might be? I don't want to pay hundreds of dollars for a little sticker that will only be good for a few weeks.

Thanks for taking the time to read through this lengthy post!!!

If your car is new, I would personally take off the plate.

good question!

mine is coming up as well....you may want to call and schedule the 5K oil change and ask if they have the pads for TSB XXXX....if they have to order them, just have them call you when they're in and ready to go...this way you'll only have to make 1 trip to the dealer (unless you want 2 separate free loaner cars on 2 separate occasions).

1) mini: Well since they usually have to special order them, I would give them at least a week to get them there and ready to install.

2) If it were me, I would probably just take off the license plate all together. You are driving a current model luxury car. i think youd be more likely to get pulled over with an expired sticker than you are not having a license plate at all!

Oh BTW, put the paper license plate back on if you decide to take your license plate off. It makes you look more legit.

1) just call any local dealership and see if they would honor it,

2) I'd put your original paper plates on... the cops will think its new and not bother you....

Thanks for the help/suggestions, everybody! One more question that I thought of though-- do you know if I will have any problem registering plates in Florida with expired Alabama tags?

You could call your local DMV. I'm sure this isn't the first time they've dealt with this circumstance. They might issue you temporary tags for the period that you need them.

If you run without tags and get pulled over, how happy (and forgiving) do you think the police officer is going to be to find out your tags are expired? Heck, at least with expired tags you can say "Oh, I was out of state and forgot all about it."

Should not make a difference. I've done it several times. Usually the first thing you do is get your car inspected, then take that paperwork along with the prior registration papers and title to the DMV and get your new title and plates. The new state doesn't give a damn whether the registration is current or not in the old state. They are only looking for legal ownership, and fees for their state.
