Prospective Lexus owner
With proper snow tires, you should be able to get around in the snow.
I owned 2 g35's before the IS and I will not touch another Infiniti product. They had too many issues and Infiniti works against you and sets up hurdles to get those issues taken care of.
I've also had 2 ES loaners and they are great if you're looking for a quiet and comfortable ride. If you do choose an ES, get the one with the HID's. The halogens are horrible but the HID's are better than the ones on the IS.
On the other point, I was always a saver until I worked at a bank between undergrad and grad school. After closing too many large accounts and opening safety deposit boxes filled with $, valuables of those recently deceased, I adjusted course.
Not telling you to spend your $ like everyday is your last. Spend in moderation AND save in moderation. None of us can or should tell you where you should be on that spectrum.

I haven't lived in MN but I lived in Ontario and I can't see MN winter weather being too much worse. Just get winter/snow tires, NOT all season tires, if you are going to drive in wintery conditions regularly. Now if you are stuck in 2ft blizzard it won't matter anyway whether you have AWD or RWD.
Test drive all the cars in your list and others that are not and pick the one you like the most.

Hi, I just found this forum today and I must say I am impressed. I am about to finish my last year of graduate school and I am considering purchasing an IS after I get my first job. I have been looking at all the after market products and prices you all have been paying for your IS models and it has been a great read. My question is this: how many posters on this board live in a northern environment? I live in MN and have thought that I would need to have the AWD IS but I have seen so many posters with RWD that it made me question this philosophy.
In addition, how many of you have driven the ES350, Cadillac CTS, or Infiniti G35? I love all of these vehicles but right now the IS is in first place. I have read all of the consumer reports on the vehicles and it appears that the ES350 got the best review but from what I've gleaned on the ES350 message board is that folks are having trouble with that model.
Thanks for the input,
