Mother of all "Should I get IS250 or IS350?" threads (merged into one steaming pile)
#76
I wanted to get a 250 with ML + Luxury, but those have to be special ordered in Cali. However, they had a used (12K miles) 350 with Luxury + ML for $38K, so I took that. Probably ended up paying less than a new 250 with Lux + ML.
As a bonus, I have an '06, so I get to use the Nav-Hacks!

I obviously have a different car (see SN) but my gf chose the 250 because she didn't care about the extra ponies and cares more about MPG.
At 35,000 out the door including the Luxury Package, 18" Wheels, and Navi the price was right too.

I've liked the IS for the style of car, not the horsepower. Could care less how fast it can go, for the price of a fully loaded 350 i would rather get a cadillac ext, or bmw 5 series. Not that all these 3 cars are the same price but i have my limits on size of car versus the price....

several factors played into my decision...
A) The availability of a 350 with the color combo I wanted (would have had to wait another 4 months for a total of 8 months wait time)
B) The current lack of deals dealers are giving on a 350 (not many willing to go far below MSRP)
C) The unexpected / unplanned for drop of $5K in the value of my trade in
D) The need to purchase an engagement ring in the near future (dang women!)
E) When finally crunching the numbers between a 250 and 350 (based on deals I had on the table) there was a $7K+ difference between the two (after TTL + Extended Warranty). Being 23 I knew that the 250 was a better financial decision seeing as interest rates are sky high and I wouldn't have been able to get anywhere close to the budgeted $400 per month car payment that I had planned for.
Overall I'm extremely satisfied so far. Would I have loved the extra power? Absolutely! Is it the end all be all? Definitely not. This engine is still an upgrade from my 4-banger Accord and from what I can tell early on, its got plenty of pep.

i got my IS250AWD strictly for the AWD. I work at a hospital and need to get there no matter what. My GS400 was not snow friendly. However the AWD of the IS is incredible!!! love it but i am looking into getting a sports car that will be fun for the summer

I was tired of having a sports car as a daily driver (350Z). Wanted a normal sedan and will put a Vette in the garage as a weekend warrior in the future. No need for 2 fast cars at the same time. Or is there? Haha. Believe it or not, I think my Escalade will give the 250 a run for it's money on quickness!

250 Over 350
My fiancee and I just bought a 250 over the weekend and chose the 250 for a couple reasons. We came from a 2007 Camry SE V6 and wanted more luxury, which we got. We also chose the 250 becuase it had a little less horsepower, which will keep her out of trouble, since she has never driven a rear wheel drive car daily before. Also we chose it because with the extra 5K we saved, I was able to get the Rolex Submariner Date, which I have wanted for a couple years now. The bigger engine would have been nice of it was my daily driver, but I guarantee that long after we sell or trade in the IS I will still be enjoying my Rolex. I guess it all comes down to what everyone feels is most important to themselves.

My decision for the 250 was a complete no brainer. Here in socal, the price difference would be closer to 10k for the 100hp dif. in the 350... I chose the IS for the luxury and the looks, if i wanted fast, I would have just paid the extra 10k and went with a bmw.

I would have bought the 350 if not for 2 things.
- my dealer must not have had any to sell
- I bought on impulse and did not do my homework... never knew the 350 existed until I looked here.
The awd is nice, but for the few times a year it snows, I coulda just drove the truck

why do people keep on saying its 10k? i bought mine in so cal and the difference was 5k which was worth the extra 100hp. Not to mention the base msrp is a difference of 5k i think. and when you consider the fact the dealers are willing to deal at invoice price for the 250 then its like a 2k difference. so at most its a 7k difference. this is with ttl included.
