2IS 6MT vs 1IS 5MT
Neither is a stellar unit. The W-58 in the 1IS is no fine piece of work, and neither is the RA-62 in the 2IS. The W-58 is a hold over from the MkIII Supra, so it's been around a very long time. The RA-62 is a Tacoma gearbox with different ratios and one of the poorest designs I've ever seen for any gearbox.
If you want a point by point analysis, I can do that, but it's pretty much a case of neither unit is well made or intended to survive much over stock torque for any length of time. Neither holds a candle to the Getrag 233 in the TT Supra.
