again...sorry if you all knew this...or if a lot of newer cars do this..but i'm used to manuals or 10+ year old trucks

Yes, I find this quite annoying. Even on relatively gentle down grades the car will want to downshift in an attempt to maintain speed. It wouldn't be so bad if it was a gentle downshift, but often it is abrubt. Lexus needs a bit of fine tuning in this area.
yeah, I'm not a big fan of it, but I really only use cruise control maybe once a month. I don't like not having total control of my car at all times.
I only use it on one road at night where the cops in my town will get you for 5-10mph over. I'm in the sticks...they have nothing better to do.

I noticed this not only in cruise control but in regular driving coasting down a hill as well. The transmission just wants to downshift as if to save your brakes or something. I don't like it either and I bypass it by switching over to manual mode and upshift it to coast downhill better.
