It's a crap design. It doesn't surprise me at all. I can't for the life of me figure out why they would put a pair of tapered roller bearings at the back of the gearbox to support the output shaft with no midplate to support the front of the shaft (or to support the rear of the input shaft.) It's a marvel to me the thing works at all for any length of time.

The internal design is so completely different from the Getrag 233 in the Supra, there's no point in even comparing them.

Default Clutch Not Replaced

The dealership didn't replace the clutch on mine...just the tranny. (i'm fairly confident this is true). I have to admit though, I had amazing service by the dealer. From the time I identified the problem until I had a new trans. was approx. 3 days (they had to ship it in from another state). I highly recommend Lexus of North Hills for those of you in the Pittsburgh area! top notch.

i think we have more than 3 people who got their tranny replaced?

mine still clicks from 1st to 2nd and now i am really worried about mine. i barely got 500 miles as of today......

maybe i should schedule an appt to have them check it out?

keep us posted what's going on!

You'll have to forgive my noviceness...but do you guys also get a "winding" down noise if downshifting from 2-1 at speed (perhaps 30 mph) with the clutch engaged (so I'm not actually in gear, just putting it there knowing i'm coming up to a light or something like that)?

i seem to get a winding noise in this situation pretty much all of the time and not sure if this is normal. Again, please excuse my lack of knowledge, this might be a "duh" question.

Thx!

My clutch just feels like crap. 1st to 2nd I get the "clunk" sound. 1st gear on a hill I get the Shudder most of the time. Cruising in 5th or 6th gear I get a power loss that feels like a slip...

How much do I complain about this? And if they don't find anything wrong when I tell them to drive it??? What's the line between annoying and just live with it? I drive 40k highway miles a year so I'll be out of warranty this time next year (car is only 8 months old and 27k this week on the ticker).

Car is going in for the Dash Crack next week.

Yes it's redicolous, all of us maual trans guys keep complaining but we have to do something about it, if every single one of us called corporate I'm sure Lexus would take this issue more serious.
