take a look at the new advan s4's. They haven't ranked them on the tirerack yet but they tested them along with the Pilot AS and they were about the same in performance but a lot cheaper...

I've got 15k on my is350 and need new tires. I have the Dunlop Sport Maxx. I've looked at this thread am interested in getting more miles on the next set, but not sacrifice a ton of performance. Do all performance tires wear this fast? Anything out there that would wear better? When looking at tire specs, what metric indicated wear rate? Would "extreme performance summer" wear faster than "Max performance summer" or thisthat just the naming convention on TireRack?

Personal opinion - Eagle GS-D3's or BFG KDW's...Originally Posted by lesman01

neither will sacrifice performance, both will last 20-30 or more...
my current BFG's with aggressive alignment settings are a little over 20k right now, should last longer than 30k....
no, not all performance tires wear that fast, and Tire Racks "wording" of performance tires may be a little misleading - each tire will have it's own individual lifespan...

i have the bridgestone potenzas on mine, and i love them. a guy at a local tire store told me they are either $258 or $285 each (can't remember which). i will probably get the same tires when mine need replacing.

Michelin's $1,270
Continental's $ 728
Difference $ 542
If I thought I was getting $542 in additional benefit, that would be OK...but can I really get that much?
Really not a whole lot out there in 18" A/S.
for $542 difference ? go with conti!Originally Posted by OKCIS

think about it: unless conti is EXTREMELY bad (i.e. slips when you hang turn and it wont stop as fast as michelin's) for $186 more ($728-542) you can get TWO sets! better ROI!
if conti is THAT bad, then why BMW and MZB used them for OEM tires?

advan s4's are notorious for their treadware, you'll be lucky if you can squeeze 12K miles out if it......Originally Posted by al503

Continental makes good tires, just not the Extreme Contact that people here are talking about... Price out the Sport Contact that BMWand Mercedes use... You will see that the price difference between a good continental tire and the Michelin is really not that big... In fact, in some sizes, the Pilot Sports are cheaper than the Continental Sport Contact...Originally Posted by kickin8

Again, the Extreme Contact sucks - we used to refer to it as the low profile all-terrain tire - both because of its tread design and ride/noise complaints...
What Potenzas do you have? Every Potenza I've driven on, and had reviews from customers about have been great.... Including Tire Racks as well...

Bridgestone RE050s. They got pretty good handling, but it's just NOISY....Originally Posted by mitsuguy
