Regrets with not getting the ML Stereo??
I can't agree with you more, whenever a weekend is dead, its late, and no parties are going on, theres nothing like lighting one up and watching a movie in the car with some friends in glorious 5.1
also no parents to worry about
I can't tell the difference really... and I rarely use the DVD option. I just got it for the sake of getting every possible combination I can into a car so that I never think about "What if I could have..."
If sound is critical to you and you do not want to tear the car apart to install aftermarket, then I would go for the ML. If you are not serious about listening to music, then don't spend the extra. Myself, I am totally happy with the ML and would not be pleased with the alternative...and I have no desire to start ripping my car apart because I trade every 3 years.
Since you have ML, try playing the Star Wars III dvd, the opening 10 minute sequence played back in 7.1 surround sound will blow you away. I'm certain you'll come away with a different persepctive of your ML system . . .
Sidenote as well: All HDTV signals are either 720p or 1080i. There are no 1080p TV signals now. It will be years before TV goes to 1080p. The only place right now you can get 1080p is from a Blueray or HDDVD player using the HDMI outputs to the TV. I work for a TV cable/internet/phone service provider.
I agree!
The ML system will not display 1080i/1080P. I don't even think it will do 720i/720P. Wait, how did we get to this???? hahahahaha.....
But i am paying the car off as fast as i can and i rather put the extra few grand from the future stereo upgrades into car payments until they're done. I can deal with the stock system for now
Wow. I had no idea that this would generate so much dialogue amongst the CLers.
While I would loooove to have ML, I'm getting such a great deal on an '07 250 RWD ($1,500 under invoice) I can't complain ... It's definitely an upgrade from what I'm driving!

Put it this way, if you got some expendable cash... go for it. It's only money, you can always make more. (Of course within reason... not like I'm advocating running out there to buy a 100k+ car just for the sake of it... but a few g's isn't that much in the grand scheme of things.)
Besides, when you sell decide to move your car later on, the value of this model will be worth more since you have all the fancy schmancy stuff... compare to cars without all the fancy schmancy stuff. It was like Navigation systems 5+ years ago... people thought it was a big waste of money, and look at it now... everyone and their mom's with navi.

from my posts on the majority of lexus forum sites the car can only perform 5.1 because i was curious about the same thing. but ill try the star wars III.
