Default Something To Think About Guys

i was buyin ciggarettes at a gas station.... and came up with this thought...

lets say u go out... the key in ur pocket and u park right in front of the pay window at a gas station... u get out of the car leaving the engine running only for a split second cause u wanted to buy cigarettes.... out of no where someone runs up to ur car and drives away with ur car....

is there any way to track the car down or does the engine shut off??? wat basically happens then besides having to call the cops...

just sumttin to think about

Cigarettes will kill you.
Cigarettes will stink up your Lexus.

That said, if you leave the car running, there is nothing stopping someone from getting in and driving it away. They won't be able to restart it, but they probably only want to drive it once anyway - either for a joyride or to the chop shop.

...well, the same applies to if you leave your car running without our keyless keys (that sounds funny). Except the guy will probably run off with your home keys and your keychain if you had a normal car.

Default Lesson #1: Turn off your car and lock the door.

It's possible for anyone to "easily" steal your car away if they really want to.

Hell, someone could always just put a gun on your head and take the keys from you.

The main thing is prevention.

Do everything it takes to prevent theft. That means turn off the car and lock the door, even if it's only for 30 seconds...

I do that even at the ATM. In fact, I remember stories of people leaving their kids in the car with the engine on to run 10 feet away to the ATM and have their cars stolen with their kids in the car. When my son was an infant I used to take him with me even to the ATM. I never left him in the car and I always shut the engine off and turned locked the doors. Most of my cars had remote alarms so it is pretty easy to push a button.

You can buy a GPS antitheft device like Boomerang. Then you can call in to the security center and they will track your car. But it is probably best that you don't leave the car running if you are going to be away from it.

Its illegal here (everywhere?) to leave your kids in the car period. Ask my wife, she stopped at a spot to drop off some paperwork. Both kids were asleep. She was never 10 feet away for 1 minute from the car and withing direct eye contact (car was off). Some lady saw her, screamed at her that she was going to turn her into Child protection.

this world is full of idiots.

Lojack is worth its weight in gold.

Also helps to have your VIN number memorized .

yes, given the area, please do not under any circumstances leave your car running...even if it is in plain sight. also, when pumping gas and having to go inside to pay...always lock your car. thieves will notice you go in and if your car is unlocked, they'll grab anything in plain sight thats valuable such as purses and radars. ive seen it happen all soo many times here in south FL.

i think the engine will shut off by itself when the system did not detect the kay inside? not sure how long the system "detects" by itself......

full coverage insurance is a better idea. hahaha...

seriously now.

there is a device called Black Jack by Clifford(DEI). no subscription just each time a door opens, you have to enter the code you set within 30sec. otherwise, the car will shut off the next time it comes to a complete stop.

No, the engine won't shut down itself if the key is not inside. I took my car for a ride without the Key fob just to see if it ever shut off and it never did.
