Default Mark Levinson Head unit WORKS, without ML amp

Oh hell yeah, I have installed the ML nav unit into my cousins car. IT WORKS. THE ML WORKS even without the optical cable leading to the back!

I dont think there is a digital audio cable leading to THe decoder is in the Navi unit.

THe cables circled in red is the digital audi cable!

BTW, ML unit is no longer for sale!

Basically you just need to connect the two cable that is circled in Red and the cable that is circled in green

THe Green circled connection is the video feed
THe Red cable is for the DTS and DD Decoding.

I just installed the unit into my cousins car. Works perfect without an ML amp! However, I did install the ML+NAV as a package. But looking at the NAV+ML unit I installed... vs other peoples non-ML navi... they are the same.

The DVD player is working fine.

I am pretty sure that all you would need is a
ML head unit and the two cables. if you want to watch DVDs

I swapped put in an ML DVD+Nav at the same time, so I am not sure if there is something you need to do to turn it on.

All US nav systems have the same connectors behind the nav. So it should work.

I am mostly surprised that the audio worked without the ML amp, since the digital audio is supposed to be sent to the ML amp.

The non Navi cars, will need to do some work to install. You have to have the Navi connectors. And you have to splice in about 25 wires.

PITA. And I have no idea where the GPS antenna goes.

Wait, you want the DVD Changer in a non nav car? I can tell you for sure it will NOT work.

I put the ML head unit in my cousins car without Nav. the controller would not recognize DVDs or CDs. It would just stay at Aux.

Thanks Technique

STIG, I doubt there is any inprovment in sound, other than the fact that my cousin can now play DTS and Dolby Digital.

Most of the processing magic I suspect is in the amplifier, And an upgrade in speakers

So if my car comes with navi but no ML, all I need to do is buy a ML dvd slot from the dealer and (what wire and how many?) so that I can watch DVD?
