I was gonna say something, but then I thought about it, and I think I've got it: the laser diffuses off the paint (right?) creating a bigger reflection than the tight beam that came in. But would this also give you signal processing problems on the receiving end?

As an engineer, I've used MANY laser "tape measures", and I've been amazed at how well they do over long distances against rough surfaces. Actually, a mirror finish seems to mess with the device worse than a rough finish.

i wasnt even aware that Escort had a new detector coming out.....but if the only add on features are GPS then ive got the TOM TOM to take care of that...the 1 thing i like about the V1 is that you can always upgrade and not have to buy a whole new system
