Your spare key has a door key. Use it to get into your car.

Okay. Someone is going to have to explain how this even happened. First, the car won't allow itself to be locked with the fob in the car and second, the only way the car locks itself is if you unlock the car and don't open a door for 30 seconds.

As for his manual key, he kinda can't get to it if his only fob is locked in the car. Duh!

Could have been a dead battery on the key FOB, hence the car was not picking up the signal from the key FOB.

But it would have to have been unlocked 30 seconds prior and somehow his "only" key placed on the dash without opening a door for the car to lock itself. Otherwise, he just locked his keys in his car. I don't think it's possible given the description that the car locked itself ans this thread is actually about.

You have a point, cars do not normally lock...unless it was pre-programmed to do it, do not even think it is an option. Come to think of it, who wants an auto lock feature? Sound dangerous to me.

Then again smart cars are just around the corner.
