Default Key issues - please help

So I drove home from the grocery store and I get out of the car like usual and try to lock the door with the door handle button, but I don't hear any beep. I try it again and still no beep. I get in the car and try to start it and it says "Key not detected". So I think the key must have low battery, so I get my spare key (never really been used) and try that and still have the same issue!

Now when I put the key up to the push button it will start but that's about it. Any clue how to fix this without wasting my time at the dealership?

Thanks,

Todd

It may be the batteries. Try changing them and see if that'll fix them.

Personally, I took out the battery off my spare key (to prevent power drainage). When I'm ready to use the spare, I'll just replace it by then...

i also occasionally get sensitivity issues with my key.
Some times i will walk up to my car, touch the handle, and the car won't unlock right away. There's a slight lag.

And other times (when trying to start the car), i press the break pedal down, but no "green" light on the push button starter.

I've dropped my keys maybe twice so far. =/
i wonder how fragil the keys are.

Seems weird that the battery would drain on the spare faster than on the one I regularly use. The car is 5.5 months old, is that the general life of the battery in the key fob?

How do you open the key fob anyway?

This is like a jigsaw puzzle. But I think that something screwy was going on in detecting the key by the car's ECU/sensors. I can't exactly say what could've been wrong but try to think about that time and see if there might have been any interference in the signal due to something else....

Has this happened again?

It hasn't happened again because it isn't fixed yet.

There is a red light on the key (above and to the left of the lock button) that lights whenever they key transmits. Does it go on when you push the lock or unlock buttons? Does it flash when you bring it near the door?

If you've changed the batteries and it happens again than that probably means the signal is screwing up....

I am a little confused about your statement? If it hasn't happened again, why would you wanna go through the pain of having it fixed?

Bichon: There are red lights when I push the button.

Pimp: You asked if it has happened again, but it was never resolved in the first place. I still have the problem......

As someone who has had the battery in the key fob die, I can tell you that when the key fob battery is dead, the red light doesn't flash.

That leads me to think it is the car, not the key.

Perhaps the "turn if off and then back on again" method that works so well with other electronics and computers would do the trick. You might want to try pulling the battery cable for about five minutes, and then hooking it back up.

If that doesn't work, a trip to the dealer is probably in order.

I've actually had this happen to me a few times as well. I called Bell Lexus and they just told me to try and find a common denominator of when it's happening. I haven't found a single thing that's the same every time it happens. They also said that if I can't find common grounds to work with, they probably don't know what's wrong and can't fix it :\

I just had that happen to me a few hours ago. I'll see if it reoccurs tommorow. I'll try swapping my fobs out if needed.
