Next time you're out on the road, compare cars that don't have chrome wheels with others that do have it. Chrome makes the car stand out a little bit. It makes it more luxurious (whereas other types of wheels may look sporty or aggressive). The effect can be overdone though: think of it as a chain necklace versus Mr. T. Some people put too much bling on their cars...
Wheels can sometimes change the whole appearance of the car. Think of wheels as the car's shoes: is it sporty like sneakers? luxurious like dress shoes? or is it so bling it looks like hookers' stelletos?
Well put Philip! Chrome put the last classy BLING on the Thing! It really brings out the darker color cars, especially Black! And as my good friend always says... "Why? Because I Can! That's why!"
Chromed wheels equivalent to 'gold' badges, imo.....
It's all personal but I just don't like chrome wheels on a car like a Lexus. Just too bling and it always begs the question, 'WHY?'. Serious road cars just don't need, or have, chromed wheels. If a custom show car look is what you are after then chromed wheels may be ok, but if you are really into the serious side of performance chromed wheels give the opposite impression. That's just my opinion and isn't worth a hill of beans. Whenever I see chromed wheels I think the owner is trying too hard to impress people about their ride. But if chromed wheels blows wind up your skirt .... then go for it.

I don't understand your argument. I can understand saying you don't like the chrome look on a Kia because it's just too 'bling' for the car, but the Lexus emblem and name by itself makes the car 'bling'. Lexus is a higher end car and requires higher end products. IMO, some sporty wheels actually cheapen the look of the car. This is all a matter of personal opinion though.
Car color and wheel choice are probably the two biggest items on a car that are 100% opinion/personal taste.
One person may love black wheels, another may hate.
One person may love a yellow car, another may hate.
Neither person is wrong... But then again, neither is right...
Absolutely agree with you. Color and wheel choice are the two biggest things that will change the appearance of a car. It's the ultimate selection. To each their own. The only person you have to please is yourself.
JB, That was me. The company is Luxury Wheel Co. in Tempe (www.luxurywheel.com). They do the chrome wheel packages for all the Phoenix area dealers and had dozens of chromed OEM Lexus wheels in all styles when I was looking. I don't know if they have the X-pkg starfish wheels yet so you'll have to call them. On the stock IS wheels their deal was $600 for chrome exchange. I don't know how that compares to some of the chromers in SoCal though.
There you are!! I knew you would pop up eventually .
Sorry about the delayed response.. went out of town and working a lot.
So I guess no one has, or knows of anyone who's chromed the X-wheels. Now I really got to do it and maybe I'll try to get them done sooner than later. I'll be sure to keep you guys updated and post somee pics when I get them back.
AZ, Thanks for the info on luxurywheel. I'll probably end up using them.
