Default 10,000 mile runin...

Due to feedback, I just had tires rotated (250 AWD) and oil changed. They said filters looked fine. $80. So my first 2 dealer services at 5m & 10m have me down $80 out of pocket.

We'll see over the lifetime of ownership whether the prepaid plan would have made sense, but there's alot of baloney built into the service intervals, which they like to charge for that simply isn't neccessary.

I like being able to pull out the needed services ala carte and not pay for the BS.

I was just going to start a new thread about this.

So my car is at 12K miles now and 10K service is overdue. I am just too lazy and too cheap to bring my car to the lexus. So, I called Oakland Lexus and they said 10K service is 279$! I was like umm so what do you do at 10K service.... and she goes... it includes oil change, oil filter change, top off fluid, and guess what she says after that... check tire pressure, walk around the car and do visual inspection, check head lights (i dont know what they check), tail light inspection, under body inspection, check AC, and the list goes on and on and on with those useless junks.

So, I decided to go to downtown Berkeley Toyota and ask them to change the oil for me. (36$) and here is what I was told. " We don't touch Lexuses. Toyota and Lexus sleep together in the same bed but they don't talk. And we have no idea what parts they use for their motor."

So, I decided to try Oakland Broadway Toyota. I called them and ask them if they service Lexus and I was told that they do. So, I went there (express lube) and I was told to be back in an hour.

To my dismay, when I went back in an hour, I saw my car on the lift and there were like 6 people looking at my car and pointing stuff underneath my car. and after a while, I was informed that Lexus has decided to change the engine on this car and they have no idea what parts they have used for the oil filter, and my best bet would be to take the car back. I thought WTF! you just wasted an hour of my time. But I didn't want them to change the oil anyway after their stupid service. So, I took my car back.

So, after numerous tires, I still haven't done 10k service yet.

The solution I've come up with is to DIY! I just ordered 5 oil filter and bought a pack of mobile 1 from costco!

The only service the Stealer has/will see from me is warranty work and maybe a timing chain. All these services and charges are BS. It's like trading in your old vehicle. They know that if you're going to bring your vehicle to them, you have "Hose Me" written on your forehead.

I think an oil change at my Lexus dealership is like 45 bucks. Not bad. THough I thought I'd heard SOMEbody was able to get it done at a Toyota dealership? Apparenlty not all of them play along.

yes and for $45 ( in my case $53 to be exact ) for an oil change at the lexus dealership isnt that bad ??? the experience that the earlier poster had at the toyota dealership is what im afraid of. wasting your time and it wasnt even done but it couldve been worse where they messed up a simple oil change.

Cool

A local toyota dealer did say they would do it for me, but the cost was only about $2 or $3 cheaper for the oil change then my local lexus dealer. I think the Lexus dealer is charging me about $45 + tax. So I personally dont really see a big advantage in going to Toyota. Unless your toyota dealer gives u a much better deal & you trust them.

I also asked if I could bring my own oil, and they both said it would be about $37 for labor.

I went to the Toyota dealership today and they said an oil change and tire rotation would be $54 OTD. That's alot cheaper than the Lexus price tag.
