Because they're trying to take advantage of people that can afford to buy a Lexus in the first place. I could go have the guys at the local muffler shop make me a less-pretty version of the same thing for about $100. Somehow I don't think some flat black paint and a little chrome really make it worth the other $1300.

 

TOM's is quality... your local one for $100 wont' do madrenal bends... it will cost more... usually single pipes at a really good deal is 90 bucks

 

I am more than willing to pay for a quality product... This isn't the old 89 Camaro here... And would you really feel right rolling around on a $100.00 exhaust? Just my mandrel bent piping on my custom piece was several hundred (not including the mufflers)! You get what you pay for in the aftermarket scene... trust me...

I agree it's expensive but there is a lot more to it than just some paint and chrome. First off it's ALL stainless steel and that stuff is expensive in and of itself. Mandrel bends take a special machine as well (expensive) and, hopefully, some dyno development costs are factored in. Still. In the end the good stuff always cost more and with todays factory exhausts being so good you really gain nothing but sound with most addon systems.

The Supersprint system I had on my Benz ran about 1200 bucks and that was with a discount as well. Not cheap.
